Job description

This role is designed for a highly experienced technologist who combines deep technical expertise with architectural judgment, project leadership, and executive-level client communication skills.This individual serves as a senior technical authority across on-premises infrastructure, hybrid environments, and cloud ecosystems including Azure, AWS, and Microsoft 365. Beyond execution, the Senior Systems Engineer provides strategic guidance, mentors engineering staff, and drives continuous improvement across client environments. The position requires ownership of complex initiatives, architectural decision-making, and the ability to influence both clients and internal stakeholders in a high-performance, client-centric organization.

Key Responsibilities

*Must have experiece/exposure working with or at a MSP or multi client environment.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead architecture, design, and implementation of complex infrastructure initiatives including enterprise network transformations, multi-site migrations, hybrid cloud design, virtualization strategy, and security hardening.
  • Own technical strategy for onboarding engagements, performing full environment assessments and developing scalable modernization roadmaps.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for high-impact incidents, outages, and security events.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on best practices in networking, identity management, virtualization, and cloud optimization.

Project Execution & Delivery Excellence

  • Drive end-to-end ownership of high-visibility client projects including:
    • Enterprise firewall and switching deployments
    • Server and storage migrations
    • Azure/AWS architecture and migrations
    • Microsoft 365 tenant consolidations and security configurations
    • Hybrid infrastructure modernization
  • Partner with Project Managers to define scope, manage risk, align timelines, and proactively resolve challenges.
  • Ensure projects meet technical excellence standards, compliance requirements, and long-term scalability objectives.

Client Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor during onboarding and strategic initiatives.
  • Interface with executive stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned solutions.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to coordinate integrations, upgrades, and enterprise transitions.
  • Deliver consultative recommendations that improve resilience, performance, and security posture.

Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Mentor and support System Engineers and Specialists, providing guidance on troubleshooting, architecture decisions, and best practices.
  • Contribute to internal standards, documentation frameworks, and engineering playbooks.
  • Participate in cross-department technical strategy meetings to drive operational excellence.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and infrastructure standardization.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in systems and network engineering, preferably within an MSP or multi-client enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience leading complex, multi-workstream infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as an escalation resource and technical decision-maker.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • Microsoft 365 architecture and security
    • Azure and/or AWS infrastructure design
    • Hybrid identity (Azure AD / Entra ID, Active Directory)
    • Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
    • Enterprise networking concepts (routing, VLANs, SD-WAN, VPN, QoS)

Systems Administration

  • Advanced administration of Windows and/or Linux servers.
  • Deep experience with Active Directory design, GPO strategy, and identity lifecycle management.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.

Networking

  • Strong hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise routers, switches, and firewalls (Fortinet, Meraki, or comparable platforms).
  • Experience designing secure network segmentation and cloud connectivity.
