Senior Electrical Engineer | Germantown, MD
IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Germantown, MD, to join a highly specialized MEP team with deep expertise in complex healthcare, research, laboratory, federal, and secure facility work. This is an opportunity to do work that matters - supporting mission-critical environments tied to national security, scientific discovery, healthcare, and public service.
Principal Responsibilities
Lead the analysis and design of electrical systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports
Collaborate with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information clearly
Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and responsive service
Provide in-process reviews of electrical designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
Apply IMEG quality control processes to help ensure designs meet IMEG standards, industry standards, and client requirements
Train, mentor, and motivate staff
Provide technical assistance in resolving field issues with limited support from senior staff
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical engineering best practices, and contribute to research and innovation efforts within IMEG
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and help identify and mitigate potential risks associated with electrical systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that support project goals
Participate in project interviews and presentations
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
7 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Due to federal contract requirements, this position requires U.S. citizenship
Adept in the technical aspects of one's discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
Strong training and mentoring skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

  • Contribute to advanced electrical analysis and studies, including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, motor starting, single-point-of-failure analysis, facility assessments, and site surveys.
  • Collaborate with a seasoned multidisciplinary team of Professional Engineers, LEED Accredited Professionals, energy modeling experts, CFD specialists, lighting designers, commissioning professionals, and healthcare facility design experts.

Salary Ranges (by jurisdiction, in compliance with local laws):
State of Maryland Salary Range: $105,000- $170,000
Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
