Job Description
ADTEK Engineers, Inc. is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm providing comprehensive civil engineering, structural base building design, and specialty engineering services. At ADTEK, our people are our promise and the foundation of our continued success. We are seeking a Senior Structural CAD Technician to join our cold-formed / light gauge steel department in Frederick, MD. This position offers an opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing to a variety of structural design projects.
What You'll Do
Prepare and Coordinate Construction Documents
  • Set up and organize moderate and complex structural projects.
  • Assist team members with project setup and drafting standards on simple projects.
  • Coordinate plan references, detail callouts, and section numbering throughout drawing sets.
  • Produce or coordinate complete contract documents for moderate and complex projects.
  • Deliver assigned projects within established deadlines.

Develop Structural Details and Maintain Drawing Standards
  • Select and apply appropriate standard details for moderate and complex projects.
  • Determine section locations and incorporate standard sections where appropriate.
  • Create non-standard sections and details to support project-specific requirements.
  • Maintain and organize company detail and block libraries to support drafting consistency.

Support Quality Control and Technical Excellence
  • Review and back-check drawings prepared by other CAD technicians on simple and moderate projects.
  • Identify drawing inconsistencies, coordination issues, and potential drafting errors.
  • Review returned submittals with engineers and assist with incorporation of revisions.
  • Incorporate review comments and lessons learned into future project work to improve quality and efficiency.

Job Requirements
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a detail-oriented professional who can work independently on complex drafting assignments while supporting quality control efforts and mentoring less experienced team members.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of CAD drafting experience in general building design.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project documents.
  • Experience with cold-formed steel design is preferred.

Education
  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree or technical training in CAD, drafting, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and document organization.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and maintain quality control across project documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
