Senior Labview Test Engineer information

What is a senior LabVIEW test engineer?

Senior LabVIEW Test Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and maintain automated test systems using National Instruments' LabVIEW software. They are responsible for creating test scripts, debugging hardware and software issues, and ensuring product quality through rigorous testing processes. In addition to technical expertise in LabVIEW, they often lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional groups to deliver robust testing solutions. Their work is critical in industries such as electronics, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, where automated testing and data acquisition are essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior LabVIEW test engineer?

To excel as a Senior LabVIEW Test Engineer, you need deep expertise in LabVIEW programming, test automation, electronics, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with National Instruments hardware, test management software, and certifications such as NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Architect (CLA) are often required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set outstanding engineers apart. These skills ensure the efficient design, implementation, and troubleshooting of automated test systems critical for product quality and reliability.

What are some common challenges faced by senior LabVIEW test engineers when working on complex automated test systems?

Senior LabVIEW Test Engineers often encounter challenges related to integrating legacy hardware with modern software, maintaining code scalability for evolving test requirements, and ensuring system reliability under tight project deadlines. They frequently troubleshoot issues that arise from hardware-software communication or performance bottlenecks in large-scale test sequences. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as hardware engineers and quality assurance, is key to overcoming these challenges and delivering robust automated test solutions.

What is the difference between Senior Labview Test Engineer vs Labview Test Engineer?

This position serves as an Integration and Test Engineer responsible for directing and performing test operations across a suite of spacepayload products. The role combines technical leadership, operational oversight, and handson execution to ensure payload hardware is thoroughly validated. The engineer will manage a small team of engineers and technicians while also actively engaging in test activities to maintain schedule fidelity and support highpriority operations. Close collaboration with crossfunctional engineering, manufacturing, and program leadership is essential to deliver high quality mission hardware on schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead planning and execution of payloadlevel test operations, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and thoroughness across multiple products.
  • Develop and maintain test strategies, documentation, and workflows that support verification and validation of complex payload hardware.
  • Direct daily activities for a small team of engineers and technicians, coordinating assignments, resolving obstacles, and maintaining alignment with program needs.
  • Guide test readiness preparations, test sequencing, and execution across environmental, functional, and systemlevel campaigns while ensuring proper configuration control.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines to resolve issues affecting test performance, schedule, or data integrity.
  • Serve as the central interface to leadership and customers for payload test status, technical discussions, risks, and mitigation planning.
  • Monitor progress, resource usage, and milestones across test operations, providing clear status reporting and contributing to programmatic decisionmaking.
  • Support proposal and pursuit activities by contributing technical inputs such as test approaches and Basis of Estimate (BOE) data.
  • Participate in onsite testing at internal facilities or partner locations, with travel required up to 10-20%.

  • Ability to obtain TS/SCI Clearance

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management processes and variance reporting.
  • Experience leading integration and test activities for space payloads, spacecraft buses, or other complex aerospace systems.
  • Background in developing or executing verification and validation plans for hardware involving environmental testing, functional testing, or spacequalification processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems commonly used in space hardware and how they interact during integration.
  • Ability to interpret systemlevel requirements and translate them into actionable integration and test strategies.
  • Experience establishing and managing test facilities, ground support equipment, or specialized test assets used for space payload or vehicle integration.
  • Strong capability in rootcause analysis and leading resolution of issues discovered during integration or test execution.
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting languages (e.g. LabVIEW, Python, Perl, Ruby, PuTTy, MobaXTerm, Visual Studio code).
  • Experience with RF measurements and testing, tools, and test equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, Signal Generators, O-Scopes, and RF Test Equipment).
