How you'll contribute

The 12-bed Behavioral Health Unit specializes in caring for patients aged 55 and older with various neurological and behavioral conditions, including dementia, acute mental status changes, and Parkinson's disease. The unit provides medication management and support for situational depression and ideation, while focusing on maintaining the independence of most patients. With a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, the dedicated team comprises RNs, techs, sitters, a social worker, an intake clinician, and a recreational assistant, ensuring personalized care without accepting medically unstable patients. Telehealth psychiatric services are also available to enhance patient support.

Essential Functions

  • Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
  • Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs).
  • Assesses learning needs and delivers age-/culture-appropriate patient and family education.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Participates in unit and organizational performance improvement and required continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may be assigned on-call.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should have a current State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure and possess an Associate's or Bachelor's degree or RN Diploma in Nursing.

Additional requirements include:

  •         BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire
  •          Handle with Care preferred.
  •         1-year experience in Geriatric Nursing, preferably in Behavioral Health is preferred.
