Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Sr. Engineering Specialist (Forming/Process Parts) is responsible for the coordination of communicating customer specifications to the production team and ensures the product meets customer needs. This position will focus on initiating and implementing technical improvements, preventing, and resolving technical problems, and assessing the capabilities of the processes.

 

Reports to:  Sr. Engineering Leader

Direct Reports: Process Parts Technicians (3 Primary FTE)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere and promote all plant safety policies, procedures, and standards. Define, enable, and implement all and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Manage safety risks in area of responsibility to define and implement complete and sustainable solutions.
  • Uses science and engineering principles to drive process understanding and identify where the biggest process improvement opportunities exist.
  • Provides expertise regarding the relationship between process parameters, operational performance, and product properties.
  • Develops and implements new ideas that provide step-change quality or productivity improvements for manufacturing.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for improved cost or product performance from a process perspective.
  • Uses statistical methods to validate improvements to process and product.
  • Uses standard and methodical problem-solving tools (RCA, 5-why, etc.) to analyze problems and define robust root causes and corrective actions.
  • Uses standard and methodical tools to track actions and activities to create transparency and accountability.
  • Partners with 3rd party suppliers or technical institutions to develop new processes.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates assigned engineering work on-schedule and in good quality.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned work between all disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Applies sound technical engineering practices towards the completion of engineering projects and requests for engineering services to accomplish Plant & Corporate objectives within the established policies and procedures.
  • Manage capital projects to include justification, job scope definition, bidding, budgeting, scheduling, implementation, risk management, follow-up (spare parts, PMs, training, etc).
  • Communicate effectively in multiple formats to team members with various backgrounds.
  • Develops, updates, and delivers effective training materials and work instructions while also gauging compliance to ensure understanding and proper application.
  • Strong contribution and participation in TPM systems (5S, AM, PM, FI, etc.).

PROCESS PARTS TEAM

 

  • Document process and ensure team is trained, competent and delivering on objectives.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction in terms of safety, delivery, and quality.
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Supporting experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet customer's fitness for use.
  • Lead and manage direct reports in all aspects to ensure team member's effective performance in their role and their development.
  • Establish goals for team members and meet periodically to provide documented feedback on performance.
  • Partnering with maintenance to develop and implement total productive maintenance plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership.
  • Manage AM and 5S in area(s) of ownership.
  • Analyze performance of area and develop action plans to continuously improve.
  • Manage budget for area (labor, materials, spare parts, etc.).
  • Manage inventory level(s) and anticipate problems related to weekends, holidays, staffing, material supply issues, etc.
  • Manage succession and polyvalence of team.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is required - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a continuous manufacturing environment is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Utilize Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and AutoCAD.
  • Utilize SAP for data entry and reporting.
