Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement innovative digital solutions by leveraging advanced technical expertise. You will play a key role in building scalable applications and APIs, contributing to system architecture, driving AI-enabled innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful business outcomes. This role requires strong hands‑on experience in backend development, cloud‑native architectures, and API design using Java Spring Boot, Node.js and GraphQL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, technical design, and evolution of enterprise digital solutions and API‑driven platforms while partnering with senior engineers and architects.
  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications and backend services while implementing complex business requirements.
  • Design and build scalable, secure, and high‑performance APIs using Java Spring Boot, Node.js, REST, and GraphQL technologies.
  • Identify and deliver AI‑driven solutions that improve operational efficiency, automate business processes, and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to make strategic architectural decisions and ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Apply advanced programming skills to build robust, efficient, and high‑performing software solutions.
  • Integrate multiple applications, services, third‑party systems, and cloud platforms to enable seamless interoperability across the enterprise.
  • Conduct code reviews, develop and execute test plans, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure delivery of reliable, high‑quality solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, contribute to sprint planning, and support successful project execution.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, AI capabilities, and development tools to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, API specifications, design documents, and implementation guides.
  • Mentor junior engineers, promote engineering best practices, and foster a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
  • 5 to 7 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong experience in backend application and API development using Java SpringBoot, Node.js, and GraphQL.
  • Experience developing and deploying containerized applications on Kubernetes platforms, including API security and authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience implementing observability solutions including logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, and alerting.
  • Solid understanding of API design principles, microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud‑native application development.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and mentoring others.
  • Strong execution and delivery skills, including planning, implementation, deployment, and production support.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building and deploying applications using technologies such as Gradle, GraphQL, NestJS, and GitHub Actions within CI/CD environments.
  • Hands‑on experience developing AI‑powered solutions, Generative AI applications, Agentic AI workflows, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes‑based cloud deployments; GCP certification is a plus.
  • Practical experience using AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise‑scale RESTful and GraphQL APIs with a focus on security, performance optimization, and observability.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$83,430.00 - $203,940.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
