What is a senior integration engineer?

Senior Integration Engineers are experienced professionals who design, implement, and manage the integration of various software systems and applications within an organization. They work to ensure that different technologies, platforms, and data sources communicate seamlessly, supporting efficient business operations. Their responsibilities often include developing integration solutions, troubleshooting system issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable integrations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior integration engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Integration Engineer, you need expertise in system integration, API design, and software development, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms (such as MuleSoft or Dell Boomi), cloud services, and relevant certifications (e.g., MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect) is often required. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help facilitate collaboration between technical and business teams. These skills ensure seamless system connectivity, efficient workflow automation, and successful delivery of complex integration projects.

What are some typical challenges a senior integration engineer faces when onboarding new systems into an existing tech stack?

Senior Integration Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility between legacy systems and modern platforms, managing data consistency and security during data transfers, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders across IT and business teams. Successfully onboarding new systems requires thorough analysis of existing workflows, careful planning to minimize downtime, and the ability to troubleshoot unexpected technical issues quickly. Strong communication and project management skills are essential, as the role frequently involves aligning technical solutions with broader business goals.

What is the difference between Senior Integration Engineer vs Integration Specialist?

Job description

We are looking for a lead engineer with extensive hands-on experience in architecting, building, validating, and bringing up third-party (3P) service integrations on AI-powered wearables platforms. The role focuses on leading the end-to-end integration of external partner services (music streaming, commerce, content providers) into Client''s AI wearables ecosystem using self-serve SDK/MCP connector tooling. As a lead, you will drive technical strategy, mentor junior engineers, establish best practices, and own the integration roadmap for multiple 3P partners.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with PHP/Hack and/or C++ along with iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) experience
  • 3+ years in a technical lead or senior individual contributor role driving integration/platform projects
  • Strong problem solving, system design, and debugging skills across distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of RESTful Web API design, authentication mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, API keys), and request/response lifecycle
  • Proven ability to architect and scale integration frameworks that support multiple concurrent partner onboardings

Extensive Experience in 3 or more of the following areas:

  • Architecting and building API connectors / plugins against an SDK or integration framework at scale
  • Working with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar AI tool-calling standards and defining tool schemas
  • Integrating media streaming services (audio playback, content search, media URL handling, DRM)
  • Designing and validating end-to-end integration flows (search → action → response) with error recovery
  • Building automated integration test frameworks and E2E validation suites with CI/CD pipelines
  • Leading partner API integrations across multiple external providers simultaneously (music, commerce, content)
  • Designing error handling strategies, rate limiting, retry logic, circuit breakers, and graceful degradation
  • Defining and enforcing quality gates (TSR/FACR or equivalent) for production-readiness

Leadership & Ownership:

  • Own the technical roadmap for 3P integration bring-up across 5+ partner connectors (Genie Music, ANT Commerce, Melon Music, LINE Music, Audible → DAT)
  • Drive the "self-serve playbook" initiative — establish repeatable processes that reduce per-connector bring-up from weeks to days
  • Mentor and guide other CWs/engineers on integration patterns, code quality, and debugging approaches
  • Coordinate with AI Extensibility engineering leads for architecture reviews, code reviews, and quality gates
  • Provide technical input on partner API feasibility assessments and integration complexity estimates
  • Proactively identify risks, blockers, and dependencies across concurrent integration streams

Preferred Attributes:

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience creating and scaling repeatable integration playbooks and runbooks across multiple teams.
  • Deep familiarity with AI/LLM tool-calling architectures (function calling, tool schemas, tool orchestration, agent frameworks).
  • Experience with media streaming protocols, DRM, and native audio playback pipelines on embedded/mobile devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, make technical decisions, and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with Phabricator-based code review workflows and Meta''s development practices.
  • Familiarity with Meta''s wearables platform & Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
  • Track record of improving team velocity and engineering processes.
  • Passion for building scalable, repeatable integration patterns that compound over time.
  • Experience in using AI-powered productivity and development tools.
