Job Summary - Chemistry Instructor

Instructor(Nuclear)

Develops instructional materials and conducts training for Chemistry technical training programs at the Company's nuclear power stations (Nuclear Plant Equipment Operator, Nuclear Electrician, Nuclear Instrument Technician, Nuclear Mechanic, Nuclear Chemistry Technician, Health Physics Technician, etc.). Works on technical training topics and is responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation and evaluation of training in the classroom, laboratory and on-the-job. Responsible for providing support in the maintenance of training programs in accordance with nuclear industry, regulatory and legal requirements. Interfaces with regulatory personnel and industry peers.

Senior Instructor(Nuclear)

Develop instructional materials and conduct training for Chemistry technical training program. An incumbent at this level should have in-depth knowledge of instructional design theory as well as expertise in the technical area for which he or she is providing training. This level works on the most complex training topics and is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and evaluating training in the classroom, laboratory, and on-the-job. This level also is responsible for maintaining training programs in accordance with nuclear industry, regulatory, and legal requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Instructor(Nuclear)

At least 5 years of experience (with a related bachelor's degree) in the trade, craft or discipline for which they would train (prefer at least 4 of the 5 years of directly related experience in the applicable INPO accredited training program).

In lieu of the preferred related bachelor's degree, will accept related associate's degree and at least 7 years of experience as specified above or a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience as specified above.

Fully qualified and proficient in the specific craft discipline for which they would train i.e. Nuclear Electrician, Nuclear Instrument Technician, Nuclear Mechanic, Nuclear Chemistry Technician, Health Physics Technician, etc.

Must have demonstrated knowledge and ability to prepare, present and practice job-related skills with class participants through the delivery and successful conduct of On-the-Job training and/or Task Performance Evaluations (OJT/TPE).

Must have led OJT/TPE modules for the specific discipline(s) for which they will conduct training.

Must have been observed and formally approved to conduct OJT and/or TPE for specific discipline(s).

Prefer in-depth knowledge of instructional design theory and SAT (System Approach to Training) or ability to achieve this skill to progress in the job series above this mid-level role.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to effectively communicate with external stakeholders.

Good problem-solving skills.

Good personal computer skills.

Demonstrated ability to operate various plant systems and controls as required for instruction.

Possesses some informal leadership skills.

Senior Instructor(Nuclear)

12+ years of related experience OR;

Certified Instructor (including 5+ years of experience) OR;

RO or SRO (including 5+ years of experience) OR;

Sr Instructor Training Cert from Dominion (including 5+ years of experience);

In depth knowledge of instructional theory and design and SAT;

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, good personal computer, operate various instrumentation and controls, problem solving;

Abilities: Analyze and develop training materials, train and lead others, interface with regulatory personnel and industry peers, informal leadership skills, ability to effectively communicate with regulators.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: 

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Education or related Technical degree(Chemistry, Chemical Engineering)

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines(s) listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.5.4

Education requirements: High school diploma

Minimum experience for the position:

Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience to include 0.25 yrs. Special requirements:

1.) Shall have demonstrated knowledge of instructional techniques through training or experience and be certified as a qualified instructor for the material being presented;

2.) Instructors of licensed personnel who provide instruction on the simulator shall hold, or shall have held, a senior operator's license or have been certified for equivalent senior operator knowledge.

REFER to ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.1, for guidance on alternatives to degree requirements, experience substitution for education, and alternatives to experience (not allowed for Special requirements)

Note: Dominion Energy minimum requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.

Prefer INPO accredited technical training program completion, Instructor Training Certification (Dominion Energy) or Certified Instructor.

What You'll Get

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:

Instructor (Nuclear): $90,900 to $118,100

Senior Instructor (Nuclear): $102,300 to $132,800

The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, and work location. This is not intended to represent the full salary range for the position or limit future compensation growth.
