Position Overview

Senior-level role supporting EPC project design work for power generation projects. Designer are responsible for developing detailed raceway designs including duct bank, embedded conduit and cable tray from concept to completion. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to approach construction-drive engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

We are a high performing team of engineers and designers that develop projects through the project life-cycle engaging exciting projects throughout North America. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

Location

This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Lone Tree, CO; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; Phoenix/Tempe, AZ; New York City, NY; or Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

For roles in Chattanooga, TN; Detroit, MI; or Richmond, VA, the position will start remotely and transition to a hybrid/in office arrangement once the new office is established.  

Responsibilities

Design duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems from concept to completion utilizing engineering documents, sketches or vendor data

Perform calculations to size and check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements

Develops 3D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills. Checks and navigates in the 3D models for interferences and constructability

Routes electrical cables in a 3D environment to generate a cable schedule

Model electrical components using vendor submittals and electrical designs

Perform calculations to size pull boxes according to NEC requirements

Utilize applicable engineering national and local codes

Reports project progression updates and/or issues to project lead team

Coordinates with project team by utilizing the Project Database: Request for Review Process, Holds List, ECN, Request for information from other disciplines, and all other applicable functions

Gathers information needed to develop design and verify voltage separation requirements are met

Analyze, inspect, and construct designs while adhering to electrical quality standards and department procedures

Checks design for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking

Resolves checked drawings; prove and understand comments made

Completes miscellaneous tasks to support project development

Acts as a field resource to assist construction in field resolution on issues

Qualifications

At least 8 years' experience in electrical design

Power generation experience, preferred.

Experience with underground designs from concept to completion

Experience in cable tray, grounding and lighting from concept to completion

Experience in SmartPlant 3D

Experience in MicroStation or AutoCAD

Must be able to conceptualize in a 3D environment.

Ability to work in a growing, adaptive and multi-discipline team environment

Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Base Compensation: $107,000/yr - $112,000/yr 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
