Job Description

Job Title: Principal Consultant - Business Analysis

Posting Start Date: 6/30/26

Posting Location:

Principal Consultant

Aurigo Software Technologies Austin, Texas, United States

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Consulting

Function: Consulting, Customer Experience (CX)

Role Overview

The Principal Consultant is Aurigo’s highest-impact individual contributor consulting role—the visible standard the broader consulting team is being developed toward. You are a trusted advisor. Customers describe you as a partner who improved how they operate, not a vendor who configured their software.

This role exists because Aurigo’s consulting practice is moving from a requirements-driven model to a functional consulting model where consultants own the business solution and drive outcomes. Training can describe that standard. You demonstrate it.

Where This Role Sits

You sit within Aurigo’s CX Consulting function, reporting to the Senior Manager, Consulting. You are the senior consulting presence on complex engagements—Mega Gov, Federal, and demanding DOT implementations. On AI-native engagements, you lead the customer-facing side of the consultant-FDE partnership, owning business process, change management, and executive relationships while Forward Deployed Engineers build technical solutions alongside you.

Career Path

Consultant → Senior Consultant → Principal Consultant → Senior Principal Consultant → Advisory Consultant

All roles are Individual Contributor. Aurigo invests in deep expertise at every level of the IC track.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery and Value Mapping

  • Lead end-to-end discovery workshops on complex engagements for DOTs, Mega Govs, and Federal agencies
  • Build and own the full consulting deliverable suite: CBI Profiles, Real Value Maps, Stakeholder Analyses, Change Assessments, and Success Criteria
  • Present value narratives to executive sponsors in their language, connected to outcomes they care about
  • Run gap diagnostics independently—distinguish product, configuration, and change management gaps and drive the right recommendation without escalation
  • Secure and maintain executive access throughout the engagement lifecycle

Delivery Leadership

  • Lead consulting workstreams on the most complex Masterworks implementations across Plan, Build, and Maintain product lines
  • Apply and enforce the Customization by Exception standard; push back on unnecessary customization, offer the better path, and own the business case when customization is genuinely required
  • Lead the business process transformation conversation; help customers see how they need to work differently, not just how Masterworks works
  • Drive change management planning and own adoption outcomes alongside the CSM and PM
  • Apply AI tooling fluently and guide customers through what AI-native delivery means for their programs

FDE Partnership

  • Lead the customer side of consultant-FDE engagements—own the relationship, business context, and value narrative
  • Translate between customer business needs and FDE technical solutions; ensure what gets built connects to committed value
  • Represent the customer’s change management and adoption reality to FDE; ensure solutions are deployable, not just buildable

Standard Setting

  • Demonstrate all six consulting competencies visibly in every engagement; your daily practice is the standard the team develops toward
  • Debrief with Senior Consultants after key sessions; make your thinking visible and transferable
  • Contribute directly to the consulting excellence framework; your instincts and practices inform what gets codified
  • Participate in consultant and IC hire evaluation; help define and assess the standard

What Excellence Looks Like

  • Customers describe Aurigo as a partner—unprompted
  • Your engagements deliver through configuration wherever possible; where customization is required, you’ve made the explicit business case
  • Consultants who work alongside you are asking better questions and running better sessions six months later
  • Your consulting deliverables—CBI Profiles, RVMs, Change Assessments, Success Criteria—are the north star of every engagement you touch
  • You lead AI vision conversations with customers, helping them see what their capital programs look like when AI handles repetitive work
  • You resolve complex customer situations independently—including when the right answer is to challenge what was asked for

What You Bring

  • 10–12+ years in functional consulting, business transformation, or senior implementation roles with a track record of advisory work at the executive level
  • Demonstrated consulting experience in enterprise software implementations—not BA work, not project management, not technical configuration
  • Deep experience working with public agencies—DOTs, Federal programs, or large government capital programs—and genuine understanding of how they operate, decide, and manage change
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex discovery and consulting sessions, build executive-facing value narratives, and navigate organizational resistance
  • Fluency in capital program management processes: capital planning, construction delivery, right of way
  • Working knowledge of AI: you understand what agents do, can envision AI-native workflows, and lead that conversation with customers new to it
  • Strong executive presence; credible with agency directors, program executives, and senior leadership
  • Track record of developing junior colleagues through proximity and example—not through management
  • US-based with ability to travel 20–40% for onsite customer engagements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, consulting, engineering, or related field preferred
  • US Citizenship / Green Card required

This Role Is Not For You If

  • You are a strong BA looking to grow into consulting—that development is what this role accelerates in others
  • You are a generalist management consultant without enterprise software implementation experience—the product and delivery context is not optional
  • You can describe consulting excellence but cannot demonstrate it with specific examples from past engagements
  • You need positional authority to set the standard—this role requires genuine confidence as an IC practitioner

Competencies We Hire For

  • Consultative Communication: Diagnoses before prescribing; surfaces what customers don’t know they need to say; translates complexity for any audience
  • Facilitation and Presentation: Owns the room in discovery sessions and executive briefings; drives the room to a decision, not a summary
  • Negotiation and Influence: Confidently challenges customer assumptions; guides customers away from unnecessary customization through domain credibility and genuine empathy
  • Creative Problem Solving: Reframes customer-specific requests into generalizable solution patterns; solves the problem underneath the problem
  • Structured Thinking: Translates ambiguity into clear solution paths; holds complexity without oversimplifying
  • Real Value Mapping: Connects every discovery finding and delivery decision back to the value the customer came for; maintains the value narrative from first session to go‑live

How We Hire

Standard competency interviews are not sufficient for this role. Behavioral competencies must be surfaced through situational questions requiring concrete examples from past engagements—not general descriptions of how you approach consulting.

The interview process includes a working session or case study designed to observe how you think, handle ambiguity, and challenge assumptions in real time. Come prepared to discuss specific situations: a time you pushed back on a customer request, a workshop where you drove alignment across competing priorities, a customization request you successfully redirected, a situation where the stated requirement wasn’t the real problem.
