Description

The City of Reno is currently accepting applications for various Aquatics part-time positions. We have many positions available that cater to different interests and skills. Salaries and hours vary by position and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Read through the job descriptions and supplemental information below for the details regarding each position. If you are looking to work in a fun atmosphere with great co-workers, the City of Reno will be that place!
Available Positions:
  • Water Fitness Instructor ($32.50-$40/hour) (Available year-round)
  • Cashier ($13-$16.50/hour) (Available year-round)
  • Head Lifeguard ($17.50-$18.25/hour) (Available year-round)
  • Lifeguard($15-$15.75/hour) (Available year-round)
  • Senior Lifeguard ($16-$16.75/hour) (Available year-round)
  • Swim Instructor ($13-$14.25/hour) (Available year-round)
Positions will remain open until filled. You are encouraged to apply early.
Examples of Essential Functions
Water Fitness Instructor:
  • Teach Water Fitness and Water Safety courses.
Cashier:
  • Collect user fees and payments.
  • Use a computer and/or cash register for recording cash transactions.
  • Greet customers, answer phones, and provide customer service.
Head Lifeguard:
  • Oversee the facility, programs, and staff during assigned hours.
  • Monitor water conditions and initiate necessary adjustments.
  • Enforce policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and staff.
Lifeguard:
  • Guard the pool during facility use and enforce policies, rules and regulations.
  • Enter the water to rescue patrons in distress; resuscitate rescued swimmers, administer first aid to injured, call Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accident cases.
Senior Lifeguard:
  • Monitor the facility and staff during weekend and evening hours.
  • Guard the pool during facility use and enforce policies, rules and regulations.
  • Enter the water to rescue patrons in distress; resuscitate rescued swimmers, administer first aid to injured, call Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accident cases.
Swim Instructor:
  • Teach water safety, swimming and diving.

Minimum Qualifications
Some positions may have a higher age requirement than 15 and require additional certifications for employment. The minimum qualification requirements for the aquatics positions can be found below.
Aquatics Instructor-Certified:
  • Age: 16
  • Required Certifications: Water Fitness Certification, Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training Instructor and /or Instructor Trainer.
Cashier:
  • Age: 15
Head Lifeguard:
  • Age: 16
  • Experience: One year of being a paid lifeguard and one year of paid supervisory experience.
  • Required Certifications: Valid Driver's License, Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid
Lifeguard:
  • Age: 15
  • Required Certifications: Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid
Senior Lifeguard:
  • Age: 16
  • Experience: One year of being a paid lifeguard
  • Required Certifications: Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid
