Location: Muskegon, MI
Hire Type: Full-time / Direct Hire
Shift: Not applicable
Compensation: $80,000-$90,000
Michigan PE License, Stormwater Management & Routing, Civil 3D/AutoCAD, Local/State Permitting

Overview: The Senior Project Engineer / Project Leader will be responsible for leading and completing detailed site civil design packages for largely industrial clients, with a specific emphasis on natural gas pipeline facilities. The successful candidate will support multiple projects concurrently, manage the full scope of civil engineering designs, and perform critical QA/QC checks on all deliverables. Beyond heavy technical engineering design, this role involves cross-discipline collaboration, direct client correspondence, and navigating local and state permitting processes, offering an excellent opportunity to further develop project management skills.

Job Duties:
  • Lead civil engineering design project scope of work.
  • Develop site layouts, grading plans, and stormwater management plans.
  • Perform calculations required for stormwater routing and detention/retention, and seal civil calculations and drawing packages.
  • Identify, apply for, and secure applicable local and state permits (e.g., site plan review, zoning, stormwater, SESC, building, and ROW permits).
  • Design equipment and pipe support foundations.
  • Communicate directly with authorities having jurisdiction, including attending and presenting at planning commission meetings.
  • Perform QA/QC checks on calculations and design deliverables, and review civil engineering design packages.
  • Coordinate closely with project team members across disciplines and maintain active client correspondence.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Experience: 5–10 years of experience as a Civil Engineer.
  • Licensure: Active Michigan PE License is required.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of stormwater management strategies and best practices, alongside familiarity with local permitting processes. Structural steel and concrete foundation design skills are highly preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, OpenFlows Storm, OpenPlant, Microstation, RISA 3D, RISA Foundation, and Microsoft 365.
  • Soft Skills: Strong technical writing capabilities and comfortable presenting to public planning commissions.
Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or genetic information.
