To thrive as a Senior Geologist, you need strong expertise in geological mapping, data analysis, and field investigation, typically supported by an advanced degree in geology or earth sciences and several years of industry experience. Familiarity with GIS software, modeling tools, and data management systems, as well as certifications like Professional Geologist (PG), are commonly required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help manage teams and convey complex information to stakeholders. These competencies ensure the accurate interpretation of geological data, effective project management, and informed decision-making in exploration or environmental projects.

Is there a high demand for senior geologists?

The demand for senior geologists remains strong in industries such as oil and gas, environmental consulting, and mining, especially in regions with active resource exploration and environmental projects. Experienced geologists with skills in GIS, data analysis, and certifications like PG are sought after to support exploration, environmental assessments, and sustainable development initiatives.

What are the main challenges a senior geologist faces when managing field teams and projects?

Senior Geologists often juggle multiple projects simultaneously, which requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. A significant challenge is coordinating diverse field teams, often working in remote or challenging environments, to ensure safety and data accuracy. Job description

IAMGOLD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geologist to provide advanced geological expertise in support of exploration target generation, drill planning, and mineral resource growth across our project portfolio.

Working closely with the District Exploration Manager and multidisciplinary teams, the Senior Geologist will play a critical role in integrating geological data, developing robust 3D geological models, and guiding exploration strategies that support accurate and defensible mineral resource estimation. This role combines strong technical capability with hands-on involvement in exploration programs, ensuring high-quality data collection, interpretation, and execution aligned with corporate objectives.

The Senior Geologist will lead and advise on exploration activities from early-stage target generation through advanced drilling programs. This includes applying expertise in geological modeling, supporting resource estimation workflows, supervising field activities when required, and contributing to technical reporting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. The role also provides mentorship and technical guidance to other members of the exploration team while fostering strong collaboration across functions.

We're looking for a results-driven professional with a university degree in Geology (or related discipline), along with 10 to 12 years of exploration experience, including gold exploration. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in 3D geological modeling (e.g., Leapfrog), strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate effectively in complex and evolving environments. Bilingualism in English and French and membership in a recognized professional association are key assets.

We offer an attractive total rewards package that includes a competitive salary and bonus, extended health, dental and insurance benefit coverage, a health spending account, fitness & wellness subsidy, employee & family assistance program, registered pension plan with company match, employee share purchase plan with company match, TFSA & RRSP, electric vehicle subsidy, summer hours and holiday office closure.

If you are passionate about advancing exploration excellence, thrive in technically complex environments, and are motivated to contribute to the growth of a dynamic mining organization, we invite you to join IAMGOLD and help shape the future of our exploration success.
