Job description

Job Title: Senior Estimator – Commercial Drywall

Location: Charleston, SC OR Savannah GA

Position Summary
A leading commercial construction contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of detailed and competitive cost estimates for drywall and related scopes. This role plays a critical part in securing new work, mentoring junior staff, and driving preconstruction strategy from initial bid through project award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle estimating efforts for commercial drywall projects, including metal stud framing, drywall, insulation, acoustical ceilings, and specialty systems
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive cost estimates from drawings and specifications
  • Analyze bid documents, identify risks, and develop scope clarifications and exclusions
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Prepare and present bid proposals, budgets, and value engineering options
  • Collaborate with project managers, executives, and clients during preconstruction
  • Mentor and oversee junior estimators, providing training and quality control
  • Maintain and refine historical cost data and estimating processes
  • Participate in post-bid reviews, project handoffs, and client interviews

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial drywall or related construction trades
  • Strong understanding of drywall assemblies, metal framing systems, and acoustical ceilings
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
  • Proven track record of successfully bidding and winning projects
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
  • Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software

Preferred (but not required)

  • Experience with estimating tools such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Planswift, or similar
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with large-scale commercial or multi-project estimating environments
