Job description

A Day in the LifeThe Senior Injection Molding Engineer will support the New Product Introduction (NPI) team by working with the development, qualification, and validation of injection molding processes, including thermoplastics and thermosets. This role is critical to ensuring robust, scalable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes to support high-volume production.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Work with peer in the development, optimization, and validation of injection molding processes for new product launches
  • Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOEs); analyze data and provide data-driven recommendations to improve process capability and performance
  • Support process characterization, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and full validation lifecycle activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations to ensure seamless product transfer to production
  • Develop, revise, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation
  • Train and mentor operators, technicians, and engineers on processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, quality, and cycle time reduction
  • Develop and implement cost-effective testing methods and sampling strategies
  • Troubleshoot process issues and implement sustainable corrective actions in a high-volume manufacturing environment

Qualifications -

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required in Engineering and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.

Nice to Have:

Expertise in:

  • Strong expertise in injection molding processes, including thermoplastics, elastomers, and thermosets.
  • Proficient in scientific molding techniques
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis to optimize processes and drive data-based decisions

Knowledge of:

  • Mold design and tooling concepts (hot runners, cooling systems, venting)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of polymer behavior like shrinkage, viscosity,rheology, flow characteristics, thermal degradation and material stability.
  • Familiarity with secondary operations and integrated processes like over molding, insert molding and annealing

Hands-on with:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with injection molding machines (e.g., Arburg, Sodick)
  • Strong expertise in auxiliary equipment and process support systems (material handling and drying systems, temperature control units (TCUs) and thermal management, dryers ,etc)

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
