Job description

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Community Needs Bank Driver will play a crucial role in supporting the successful implementation of RETAIL RESCUE supporting the Nikki Schwartz Memorial Community Needs Bank Food Pantry Network.  This position will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transportation of food from Nassau County retail grocery stores assigned by Island Harvest. Rescued food will be brought to the SJJCC and also redistributed to local pantries and soup kitchens as needed.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Safe Transportation

·         Safely operate and maintain the assigned vehicle in compliance with all traffic laws and organization policies.

·         Ensures food safety during transport.

·         Project Support

·         Pick up and deliver rescued food from the identified stores per the project schedule.

·         Collaborate with Grocery Store personnel to assist in pick up scheduling.

·         Vehicle Maintenance

·         Conduct routine inspections to ensure the vehicle’s proper functioning.

·         Report any mechanical issues promptly and coordinate repairs.

·         Compliance and Record Keeping

·         Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant information.

·         Complete logbooks and reports as required.

·         Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including licensing, and safety standards


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Valid New York State driver’s license and a clean driving record

·         Previous experience as a driver preferred.

·         Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.

·         Familiarity with Nassau County

·         Ability to adhere to schedules and timelines.

·         Commitment to safety and adherence to traffic laws and regulations.

Note:

This full-time position earns and is eligible for benefits as offered by the Sid Jacobson JCC.

This is a grant-funded position with employment contingent upon the availability of grant funds.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·         Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions. Sitting, standing, lifting, pushing and/or pulling, and carrying (up to 25 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, and kneeling may be required.
