POSITION: Senior Sales Manager - Emerald Brand
REPORTS TO: Sr. Director of Sales - Emerald Brand
The Senior Sales Manager – Emerald Brand is a key leader within the sales organization, responsible for building and strengthening strategic customer relationships across all levels of the business. This role focuses on driving growth within the grocery retail channel through a consultative, solution-oriented sales approach.
The ideal candidate leverages consumer insights, category expertise, and market trends to identify opportunities and deliver strategies that grow both customer partnerships and the overall snacking nut category. Frequent travel is required to support assigned retail accounts and foster strong customer engagement.
Essential Functions
- Directly manages assigned key customer relationships across Grocery, Drug, Military, Alternate, and Distributor channels and is responsible for account growth and retention. Having a strong understanding of Wakefern is a key requirement.
- Develop and execute customer specific strategies aligned with the Company’s strategies and goals to deliver both sales and profit growth.
- Must be able to interpret key retailer POS data, market trends, and consumer insights to evaluate business results, craft fact-based sales presentations, and develop sound solution-based recommendations.
- Manage and develop customer relationships with key decision makers; establish and maintain high-level, executive contact with accounts, focusing on the establishment and maintenance of strategic relationships.
- Manage broker relationships as relevant based on the customer.
- Own your business results - including revenue, trade spend, profitability, and marketing execution objectives.
- Develop and execute customer plans across assortment, pricing, and promotions.
- Manage and optimize trade spending to deliver against sales and margin targets.
- Adjust and adapt plans as business results dictate.
- Work collaboratively with supporting business teams and leverage cross-functional resources to deliver outlined sales objectives.
- Prepare and present written and oral sales presentations with customer decision makers.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual sales reviews as needed.
- Negotiate customer contracts, requests for proposals and other agreements.
- Research and secure strategic new customers.
- Prepare annual account budget.
- Ownership of your retailer monthly projections and be able to properly forecast within identified margin of error.
- Oversee disputes, and resolution processes with the Customer Service Team and Brokers.
- When necessary, initiate actions for timely collection of receivables.
- Maintain regular communication and coordination with Customer Service Team on sales/customer issues and to assure that order service levels are met.
- Resolve supply and delivery issues with Customer Service and Supply Chain.
- Provide Marketing with information on market dynamics and new competitive products.
- Monitor, appraise and provide information on competitive activity.
- Face-to-face direct selling with frequent travel is required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education/Experience)
- Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of direct sales experience required with growing existing accounts and new business development within the branded CPG food industry.
- Advanced knowledge of retail grocery required - must have Wakefern experience.
- Strong existing relationships with US Retail chains.
- Experience with warehouse/DC distribution (vs. DSD), including shipping logistics, minimum order quantities, full truckload planning, open order management, and lead times to store delivery.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to create and articulate fact-based sales opportunities.
- Exceptional sales skills with expertise in negotiation, account management, account growth, strategic selling, and category management.
- Demonstrated track record of achieving demanding goals.
- Strong strategic and tactical skills and an ability to solve problems and set priorities.
- Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to adjust style to effectively interact with external customers and internal staff.
- Scrappy and resourceful; not afraid to roll up their sleeves and do what’s needed to get the job done.
- An intellectual curiosity that leads to continuous learning and improvement.
- Passionately owns individual areas of responsibility while simultaneously being a team-oriented collaborator.

FLSA Designation: This position is a Salaried Exempt and not eligible for overtime.
