Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for ensuring the residence, building, and grounds are well-maintained, safe, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and team members. This role performs routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks while helping maintain the overall appearance and functionality of the community. The Maintenance Assistant also coordinates with outside vendors and contractors as needed to support building operations and compliance with safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of building systems, equipment, and grounds.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
- Maintain the physical appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the community, including common areas and exterior grounds.
- Identify maintenance issues and take appropriate corrective action in a timely manner.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and applicable building codes.
- Work collaboratively with team members, residents, families, and outside contractors.
- Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance records as required.
- Support emergency preparedness efforts and respond to urgent maintenance situations as needed.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of building maintenance, repair techniques, and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to follow preventative maintenance schedules and established safety procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make ethical decisions.
- Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including frequent lifting, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and stretching.
- Ability to safely move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
- One (1) year or more of maintenance experience required.
- Experience in a healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or residential environment preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
