Job Summary
Responsible for leading customer-specific product modifications from concept through production. This role supports high-margin utility, outdoor, and industrial customers by translating customer and sales requirements into robust, manufacturable design solutions. Leads electro-mechanical product design and/or redesign, detailed part and assembly drawings, prototyping, testing, and production release. Must be able to collaborate effectively with sales, product management, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and testing teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leads design engineering activities for customer-specific product modifications including but not limited to development of part geometry, assembly design, and drawing generation. Owns engineering documentation such as Engineering Change Notices, bills of material, and parts tracking to support production release. 40%
  • Partners with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors to keep the manufacturing lines running and ensure quality product is produced. Conducts pilot/pre-production runs. 10%
  • Actively participates in, or lead on occasion, cross functional team to deliver unique customer solutions in support of sales success. Serves as a technical resource in customer discussions as needed. 10%
  • Process Utility Change Requests (UCR) for the Utility portfolio in support of improving quality, productivity in manufacturing, and cost reductions. Ensure all Design Engineering activities are completed, and design changes are successfully implemented into production. 10%
  • Guides engineering, manufacturing, and post-sales teams through customer quality issues using RCCM and structured root cause methodologies. Confirms implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions. 10%
  • Submits and manages test requests, works closely with test laboratories, and ensures compliance with UL, DLC, and other applicable standards. Supports prototype builds through the model shop and reviews specifications and customer requirements. 10%
  • Continuously looks to improve processes related to quality, productivity, cost, and responsiveness. Actively supports Better-Smarter-Faster, Lean, and Kaizen initiatives and completion of post-Kaizen activities. 10%
Skills
  • Proficient use of SolidWorks, cloud-based file sharing, PLM/ERP systems (Windchill, Oracle, or similar), MS Office, etc.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, injection molding, sheet metal design, and extrusion.
  • Knowledge of finishing processes including powder coating, plating, and anodizing.
  • Working knowledge of UL, DLC, and applicable regulatory and non-regulatory industry standards and testing processes.
  • Understanding of analysis led design such as FEA, thermal simulations, and wind loading.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and through sketches and engineering drawings.
  • Works effectively in cross-functional team environments and can lead through influence without formal authority.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of applicable experience required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or relevant discipline
  • Commercial lighting experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Proficiency in use of AI and AI Agents
Travel Requirements
  • Up to 20% travel domestically
