Senior Financial Systems Analyst

Help shape how APS manages the financial operations behind one of the company's most critical technology investments.

As a Senior Financial Systems Analyst, you'll lead the development of the financial framework supporting APS's data center operations. This is a highly visible role responsible for designing pricing models, building financial controls, implementing reporting processes, and ensuring complex operational costs are accurately allocated across the business.

Working closely with Finance, Accounting, IT, Strategy, and executive leadership, you'll translate complex operational and financial data into meaningful insights that support investment decisions and long-term business planning. This role combines financial analysis, systems expertise, process design, and executive-level partnership to build scalable solutions that improve transparency, accountability, and decision-making across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of financial reporting, pricing, and reconciliation processes that support critical business operations.
  • Design and maintain financial models, cost allocation methodologies, and reporting solutions that provide actionable insights for business leaders.
  • Manage complex financial and operational reporting across multiple enterprise systems, ensuring data integrity, reconciliation, and compliance with established controls.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Financial Business Office (FBO), IT, Strategy, and business leaders to translate complex data into meaningful business insights.
  • Lead or support financial systems implementations, reporting enhancements, and process improvement initiatives that strengthen reporting capabilities and internal controls.
  • Develop executive-level dashboards, reports, and financial analyses that support strategic planning and investment decisions.
  • Serve as the department's technical subject matter expert for financial reporting systems, reconciliation processes, and enterprise financial data.
  • Provide consultative guidance to cross-functional stakeholders by troubleshooting reporting issues, interpreting financial data, and recommending scalable business solutions.
Minimum Requirements

Senior Financial Systems Analyst

  • BS degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • PLUS five (5) years experience in accounting reconciliation, energy billing, or financial reporting and analysis; current experience in utility operations related to generation modeling, deregulated retail, and trading; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience developing financial models, pricing methodologies, or cost allocation frameworks that support strategic business decisions.
  • Demonstrated success leading or supporting large, cross-functional financial or systems implementation projects.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or improving financial reporting processes, reconciliation workflows, and internal controls.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, financial reporting tools, business intelligence platforms, and advanced Excel-based financial modeling.
  • Experience analyzing and reconciling large, complex financial datasets across multiple systems and business functions.
  • Proven ability to communicate financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience partnering with Accounting, Finance, IT, Strategy, or other cross-functional business teams to deliver enterprise-wide financial solutions.
  • Knowledge of project financial management, infrastructure cost management, or enterprise cost allocation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement scalable, sustainable financial reporting solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to balance technical detail and business strategy.
Major Accountabilities

1) May coordinate, integrate financial data flow, analyze, prepare and ensure monthly operations reports covering gross margin, compare total sales and revenue to annual targets; oversee validation, analysis and reporting of direct access settlements; assist in the development of marketing strategies by providing consultation on financial impact of moving power into other States; oversee process of pass-through billing of direct access settlements to ISO and other entities through special contract billing arrangements; maintain acumen by reviewing legal findings, regulatory rules, pronouncements, contracts and operating agreements; interface with IS organization to ensure functionality of settlement validation and reporting system; develop settlement system specifications.

2) May ensure that the reconciliation of transactions recorded by the traders and marketers to system records occurs on a daily basis and that the formal daily check out process of positions with traders is accomplished in accordance with department guidelines; resolve disputes and support with proper documentation; ensure book positions are within parameters/limits defined in control documents, strategies used are within approved guidelines and that transaction classifications are proper.
3) May serve as technical resource to department analysts and other personnel on resolving interpreting contracts/agreements, settlement issues, and account booking of transactions. Develops solutions/alternatives to complex problems requiring evaluation of a broad range of factors and which involve trading strategies, the evaluation and risk management of futures, options, and other derivatives; Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in determining methods, techniques, and evaluating criteria for obtaining results; Serves as technical resource to other staff members in developing analysis and interpreting contract parameters/ agreements/ policies to ensure compliance with policies and government rules and regulations. May develop specification enhancements of database systems used to develop solutions to data integrity and reporting.
