Job description

We have lofty goals (to make every dog in the country healthier, and every pet parent happier!) and we are looking for the right people to help us get there. This is an exciting opportunity to join a VC-backed, high-growth, e-commerce startup and have an outsized impact in an extremely fast-paced environment. Plus, you get to think about dogs all day!

You'll partner closely with leaders across Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, Product, Customer Experience, Strategy, and the Executive Team to shape key business decisions. You'll build sophisticated financial models, evaluate strategic investments, influence resource allocation, and deliver the insights that guide the company's growth.

  • Meet monthly with cross-functional business leaders to review results, update forecast, and surface opportunities to improve efficiency and ROI; maintain reporting on budget variances and help implement action plans
  • Build and maintain financial models across customer acquisition, retention, marketing expenses, operating expenses, headcount, cash flow
  • Own HQ G&A expense stewardship across all functions, maintaining detailed models for corporate expenses
  • Co-lead budget-vs-actual and forecast-vs-actual review meetings with department leaders, walking through variances, asking the right follow-up questions, and synthesizing takeaways for the SVP of Finance

Business Partnership & Strategic Analysis

  • Partner with each corporate department to support strategic decision-making, using relevant, accurate data and analysis
  • Build scenario analyses and business cases for commercial decisions
  • Challenge assumptions, surface trade-offs, and influence decisions through rigorous analysis
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and decision support for strategic initiatives, investment requests, cost optimization opportunities, and organizational changes
  • Build models and analyses supporting strategic initiatives, potential transactions, and due diligence
  • Deliver financial insights that impact cross-functional prioritie: customer acquisition, retention, inventory planning, spend management, and new business cases
  • Use Excel, AI-enabled tools, and BI platforms to improve reporting speed, accuracy, and scalability

Executive Support

  • Support preparation of executive, board, and lender reporting materials
  • Contribute to ad hoc strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives as the business evolves
  • Support Finance transformation initiatives by improving financial models, reporting processes, planning tools, and automation

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, venture capital, strategic finance, corporate finance, or FP&A

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts for a non-financial audience and build trusted relationships across the business
  • Demonstrated ability to independently structure ambiguous problems and manage competing priorities

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting a high-growth eCommerce, subscription, DTC, or consumer products business
  • Experience with NetSuite and modern BI/reporting tool
  • Hands-on experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business case development
