Job description

Senior Financial Analyst (Ship Repair)

Venture Dynamics is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Analyst to support ship repair operations in Norfolk, Virginia. This position supports financial reporting, forecasting, cost analysis, fixed asset accounting, and management reporting in a government contracting and industrial environment. The Financial Analyst will work closely with Finance leadership, department heads, and other company personnel to analyze financial performance and support business decisions. Assignments are project-based and may align with long-term contract work based on performance and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Analyze monthly actual financial results against plans, budgets, and forecasts and identify significant variances.
  • Investigate, interpret, and communicate forecasted financial variances to management and senior leadership.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records, including capitalization, depreciation, asset sales, transfers, and disposals.
  • Support quarterly financial forecasts, capital budgeting, fixed asset projections, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, management reports, and ad-hoc analytical reports as needed.
  • Support SOX compliance activities, including internal controls, monitoring, documentation, and Section 404 testing requirements.
  • Assist with corporate tax, insurance, risk management, external audit requests, and complex financial problem resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or another business-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting, finance, or financial analysis environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to work with detailed financial and cost accounting information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, investigate, and explain financial variances.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, forecasts, budgets, and management-level financial analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership and department management.
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable on-site attendance in Norfolk, Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or relevant professional financial/accounting designation.
  • Previous financial analysis or reporting experience with a public company.
  • Previous accounting or financial experience supporting a government contractor or ship repair organization.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, SAGE FAS, or similar financial and fixed asset systems.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audit activities.

Additional Information

This is an on-site position in Norfolk, Virginia. Standard work hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a 60-minute lunch. Work is primarily performed in an office environment within an active shipyard operation and may occasionally require access to production or shipboard areas. PPE is required when entering designated shipyard or shipboard spaces in accordance with site safety policies. Additional evening or weekend hours may be required based on reporting deadlines and operational needs. No security clearance is required. A credit check will be required for this position.
