Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Coil Operator III is an entry level member of the Coil team and is responsible for Coil production in a safe manner and ensuring quality standards of work. The Coil Operator III generally focuses on a limited scope of work in the department, but may be asked to flex to other work stations as volume dictates. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Perform coil manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, cleanup, and preparation for shipment or interdepartmental transfer in accordance with specifications, blueprints, and standard work.

· Set up, operate, adjust, and maintain manufacturing equipment, including benders, stackers, and related machinery; perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and required maintenance documentation.

· Perform tubing preparation and coil assembly activities, including shearing, stacking, spacing, squaring, beveling, defect repair, and galvanizing removal.

· Load, unload, move, stock, and transport materials and finished products using cranes, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.

· Ensure product quality through in-process inspections, documentation, adherence to quality standards, and timely escalation of defects and nonconformances.

· Own personal and team safety by following all safety requirements, PPE standards, safe work practices, hazard awareness protocols, and supporting safety initiatives and reporting processes.

· Follow ISO requirements, standard work instructions, and 5S workplace organization practices to support operational excellence.

· Meet or exceed production goals while maintaining flexibility to work across production functions as business needs require.

· Continuously develop technical skills, product knowledge, and cross-functional capabilities to increase proficiency and workforce flexibility.

· Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, sustainability, and waste-reduction initiatives that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and environmental performance.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

NATURE & SCOPE

Coil Operator III reports to the Team Leader of the Coil Department, or a more senior Coil Operator as assigned by the Supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

· Read a tape measure and perform basic fractional calculations

· Competent in reading blueprints and reference drawings

· Safely use power tools such as Sawzall, grinder, and various other small power tools as needed

· Know how to correctly fill out In Process Inspections and any other paperwork as required

· Ability to safely operate material handling equipment including pallet jacks, lift trucks and jib cranes as required

· Knowledge of all safety requirements associated with tasks

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk up to 80% of the time. Employee will also be required to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, sit and reach on a regular basis during a normal working shift This position requires frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected.
