Meow Wolf opens portals of possibility. Come as you are! We are individuals who inspire creativity in people's lives through art and exploration, so that our combined imaginations can transform the world we live in. We create immersive and interactive experiences that transport audiences into fantastic realms of story and exploration. Our vision is to be the world's leading creative company, reimagining the paradigm of art and storytelling, to make a positive difference in the world.

Job Summary: The Senior Exhibition Technology Specialist is a hands-on technical role responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the systems that support Meow Wolf's immersive exhibition experience. This role supports lighting, audio, video, show control, networking, interactive, automation, and low-voltage systems throughout the exhibition.

This position is focused on daily exhibition operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, event support, documentation, and technical improvements that help keep the exhibition safe, functional, reliable, and creatively aligned with the guest experience.

The Senior Exhibition Technology Specialist serves as a senior technical resource for complex troubleshooting, system configuration, documentation, and reliability improvements. This role should bring strong experience with AVL/show systems, networked control systems, automation, and the physical topology that connects guest-facing exhibition technologies. The ideal candidate has experience in themed entertainment, immersive attractions, creative technology, theater/live entertainment, AV systems, museums, escape rooms, or other guest-facing technical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily exhibition readiness by completing opening checks, resolving technical issues before opening when possible, and responding to guest-facing technical needs during operating hours.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, configure, and improve lighting, audio, video, projection, show control, networking, automation, low-voltage, and interactive systems.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for complex failures, system resets, signal-flow issues, networked show systems, AVoIP/AVL systems, and escalation support.
  • Install, configure, test, repair, and replace exhibition technology, including computers, controllers, displays, projectors, speakers, lighting equipment, network devices, sensors, microcontrollers, and related equipment.
  • Support preventive maintenance, inspections, repair tracking, bug/failure logs, and technical documentation in the maintenance/task management system.
  • Maintain and improve system documentation, including as-builts, signal flow, network topology, software/firmware versions, settings, backups, and recurring failure patterns.
  • Support software, firmware, media content, and programming updates to exhibit devices, controllers, and computer-based artwork as needed.
  • Assist with system redesigns, rebuilds, upgrades, new installations, and sustainment projects from planning through completion.
  • Track parts needs, equipment conditions, software backups, replacement needs, and recurring technical risks for review with leadership.
  • Support event needs through readiness checks, temporary setups, technical troubleshooting, resets, and post-event repairs.
  • Help train, coach, and mentor other team members on systems, troubleshooting procedures, end-user tools, documentation, and safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with Exhibition Technology, Art & Scenic, Facilities, Operations, Events, Creative, vendors, and other partners to keep the exhibition clean, safe, functional, and guest-ready.
  • Observe guest interactions with technical installations and recommend improvements that increase reliability, usability, maintainability, or guest experience.
  • Follow safe work practices and help reinforce safe standards around electrical systems, low-voltage equipment, tools, soldering, access equipment, and public-facing environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience in exhibition technology, themed entertainment, immersive attractions, creative technology, theater/live entertainment, AV systems, museums, escape rooms, or similar technical environments.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting technical systems in a live, guest-facing, production, or operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of AVL/show systems, show control, low-voltage electronics, AV systems, lighting, projection, networking, sensors, automation, or interactive systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, configure, test, document, improve, and rebuild existing technical systems.
  • Experience with technical documentation such as as-builts, signal flow, network topology, system settings, backups, maintenance records, or standard operating procedures.
  • Experience supporting networked technical systems, IP-based devices, signal routing, media playback, show control, or automation workflows.
  • Ability to read and work from technical documentation such as wiring diagrams, system drawings, signal flow documents, configuration notes, or existing code.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, test equipment, computers, software tools, soldering equipment, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, self-management, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to support, coach, or mentor other technicians through troubleshooting and system knowledge.
  • Commitment to safe work practices around tools, electrical systems, access equipment, and public-facing environments.
  • Formal education is welcome but not required; equivalent professional experience, technical training, or industry certification may all be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience with audio systems such as Q-SYS, Dante, audio DSP, networked audio, or equivalent systems.
  • Experience with AVL/show networks, AVoIP workflows, network controls, managed switches, IP-based devices, and physical system topology.
  • Experience with lighting and show control systems such as ETC, Paradigm, Mosaic, Eos, Pharos, or equivalent systems.
  • Experience with video, projection, media servers, displays, playback systems, or computer-based artwork.
  • Experience with creative programming or visual programming environments such as TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, Processing, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with physical computing, including microcontrollers, sensors, relays, actuators, motors, electromechanical elements, or other interactive components.
  • Familiarity with software/firmware updates, system backups, version control, GitHub, configuration management, or deployment processes.
  • Ability to read, understand, document, and make minor adjustments to existing code.
  • Coding or scripting experience such as Python, C/C++, JavaScript, Node-RED, OSC, MIDI, TCP/UDP, WebSockets, API integrations, or similar.
  • Familiarity with PCBs, logic circuits, schematics, sensors/components, prototyping, or layout.
