Job description

GFT is seeking a Environmental Project Engineer specializing in ecosystem restoration and water resources to join our Team in Owings Mills, MD! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Owings Mills office.

GFT’s Environmental team delivers integrated planning, permitting, design and compliance solutions that support infrastructure development across North America. Our team guides clients through Environmental Assessments and permitting processes, ecological and regulatory assessments and design, and environmental remediation efforts on projects that span transportation, power, water, and facilities markets. From environmental approvals to complex planning solutions, GFT helps clients protect resources, manage risk, and meet regulatory requirements with confidence.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

Under the direction of Senior Engineers, this position will integrate into a team of environmental scientists, planners, and project managers to deliver a wide range of Environmental Restoration and infrastructure projects within various sectors, including transportation infrastructure (road/bridge), transit/rail, water/wastewater, power, etc.  This role offers the opportunity to work in a truly multi-disciplinary environment, giving access to a broad knowledge base with the support of experts across the business. 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Assists with development of deliverables including construction documents, plans, cost estimates, and specifications for stream restoration, living shoreline, coastal engineering, and water resources infrastructure projects, including BMP design.
  • Reviews project documents for conformity and quality assurance
  • Perform field data collection and studies, including stream assessment and monitoring, TMDL studies, watershed assessments, drainage area delineations, BMP inspections, etc.
  • Independently develop design reports and mapping.
  • Independently prepare calculations and analyze engineering data.
  • Assist with developing Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) models.
  • Lead periodic construction oversight/inspection for environmental projects.

What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer or EIT required
  • 5-8 years experience with the design and implementation of the following:
    • Ecosystem restoration projects (stream restoration, floodplain restoration, wetland creation)
    • Coastal engineering projects including living shorelines
    • Other related water resources projects such as BMP designs, outfall restoration designs, dam removals, urban stormwater, etc.
  • AutoCAD and Microstation fluent

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $115,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
