Senior Environmental Consultant information

What does a senior environmental consultant do?

A Senior Environmental Consultant provides expert advice to organizations on how to minimize their environmental impact and comply with regulations. They conduct environmental assessments, develop management plans, oversee environmental projects, and ensure that businesses meet legal and sustainability requirements. Additionally, they may lead teams, mentor junior staff, and liaise with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Their work aims to promote responsible environmental practices while supporting their clients’ operational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior environmental consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Environmental Consultant, you need expertise in environmental science, regulatory compliance, and project management, typically supported by a relevant degree and several years of industry experience. Proficiency with environmental modeling software, GIS systems, and knowledge of ISO standards or relevant environmental certifications (such as CEnv or QEP) is often required. Strong analytical thinking, leadership, and effective communication skills help you manage teams, engage stakeholders, and deliver complex projects. These competencies ensure that projects are completed efficiently, in compliance with regulations, and with positive environmental outcomes.

What are some common challenges senior environmental consultants face when managing multiple projects simultaneously?

Senior Environmental Consultants often juggle several projects with varying client needs, regulatory requirements, and deadlines. Balancing these demands can be challenging, especially when unexpected issues arise, such as changes in environmental regulations or site conditions. Strong organizational skills, effective communication with both clients and internal teams, and the ability to adapt quickly are essential for successfully managing competing priorities. Leveraging project management tools and delegating tasks to junior staff can also help maintain workflow efficiency.

What is the difference between Senior Environmental Consultant vs Environmental Specialist?

AspectSenior Environmental ConsultantEnvironmental Specialist
CredentialsTypically requires a bachelor's or master's in environmental science, engineering, or related field; certifications like LEED or EIT are commonUsually holds a similar degree; certifications like EIT or environmental licenses may be preferred
Work EnvironmentAdvises clients, manages projects, conducts assessments, and develops environmental strategiesPerforms fieldwork, data collection, and analysis; supports environmental compliance and monitoring
Employer & Industry UsageConsulting firms, government agencies, industrial companiesGovernment agencies, environmental consulting firms, research institutions

The main difference is that Senior Environmental Consultants often lead projects, provide strategic advice, and manage client relationships, while Environmental Specialists focus more on fieldwork, data collection, and technical analysis. Both roles require relevant credentials and work within similar environments, but the senior role involves more oversight and client interaction.

Job description

Senior HR Consultant If you believe this is your HR moment to lead organizations through complexity, growth, and change, this is the role you’ve been dreaming of.

At AGC Human Resources, our Senior HR Consultants don’t just support HR functions, we are trusted HR Partners for our clients. You will work directly with business leaders to design, lead, and evolve the full talent agenda, balancing strategy with execution and insight with action.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior HR Consultant, you will:

  • Lead and manage SME client accounts where AGC serves as the outsourced HR department, acting as the primary HR leader and strategic partner for the client while owning the relationship, delivery, and overall people strategy end-to-end.

  • Serve as a trusted people and organizational advisor to executives and senior leaders, translating business strategy into effective people, structure, and capability solutions.

  • Lead the full talent function for client organizations, including organizational design, talent acquisition, performance management, learning & development, total rewards, employee relations, and HR operations.

  • Lead and support Organizational Development consulting projects.

  • Design and guide healthy, safe, and bias-free workplaces, grounded in strong culture, clear values, and inclusive practices.
  • Develop and execute talent and OD strategies that support business growth, ensuring the right structures, roles, skills, and leadership capabilities are in place today and for what’s coming next.

  • Oversee and elevate the employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to development, engagement, and retention, always aligned with each client’s unique culture and context.

  • Provide strategic guidance on workforce trends, emerging roles, leadership capability, and future-ready competencies.

  • Partner with HR systems and vendors (yes, ADP experience is a plus!) to ensure operational excellence and data-informed decision making.

What We’re Looking For
  • Solid experience across all HR disciplines, paired with strong business and strategic acumen.

  • Demonstrated experience in Organizational Development, including assessments, org design, leadership development, training, and development planning.

  • Comfort operating at a senior HR leadership level, influencing decisions, challenging thinking, and guiding leaders with confidence.

  • A true consultant mindset: adaptable, analytical, relationship-driven, and comfortable managing multiple client engagements.

  • Ability to move seamlessly between big-picture strategy and hands-on execution.

Why AGC Human Resources

If you’re ready to learn, live, and grow in a flexible hybrid environment, surrounded by smart, experienced, and genuinely amazing consulting teammates, this is your opportunity to do the most meaningful work of your HR career.
