How does a senior engineer typically mentor junior team members, and what impact does this have on the team's success?

Senior Engineers often play a key role in mentoring junior developers by providing guidance on technical challenges, reviewing code, and sharing best practices. This mentorship helps foster a collaborative environment where less-experienced team members can develop their skills more rapidly. As a result, the entire team benefits from improved code quality, faster problem-solving, and a culture of continuous learning. Senior Engineers also help set standards and encourage professional growth, which contributes to the overall success and cohesion of the engineering team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Engineer, you need advanced technical expertise in your engineering discipline, a relevant degree, and several years of industry experience. Familiarity with project management software, CAD tools, and compliance with engineering standards or certifications like PE (Professional Engineer) is typically required. Critical thinking, leadership, and effective communication are essential soft skills for mentoring teams and managing complex projects. These skills and qualities ensure successful project delivery, innovation, and strong team performance within engineering environments.

Job description

About Clark
Clark is building the trust infrastructure for the AI economy.
We're starting with audit and accounting workflows-high-trust, system-connected environments where reliability, accuracy, and security matter as much as product functionality. Our platform helps firms automate complex workflows, deploy AI safely, and modernize how audit teams operate.
The Role
We are hiring Senior Engineers focused on integrations.
Client-system integrations are critical to Clark's GTM motion. Customers need Clark to connect with the systems, documents, workflows, and data sources they already use. This role will build the integrations layer that makes Clark easier to deploy, more valuable to customers, and more scalable for the business.
Why This Role Matters
For Clark to become deeply embedded in customer workflows, it must connect reliably with the tools accounting firms and their clients depend on.
Integrations reduce implementation friction, improve customer adoption, and expand what the product can automate. This role directly impacts sales, delivery, and long-term customer value.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build customer-facing integrations
  • Build APIs, connectors, sync systems, and data ingestion workflows
  • Work with customer systems, accounting tools, document repositories, and workflow platforms
  • Improve reliability, observability, and maintainability of integration systems
  • Partner with Sales, CS, Implementation, and Product to understand customer integration needs
  • Debug customer-specific integration issues and turn repeated needs into scalable product capabilities
  • Contribute to security, permissions, and data access patterns across integrations

Who You Are
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals
  • Experience designing APIs and integration systems
  • Experience working with third-party APIs, data sync, authentication, and permissions
  • Strong debugging ability across systems
  • Comfortable working directly with customer-facing teams
  • High ownership and ability to operate with ambiguity

Bonus
  • Experience building enterprise integrations
  • Experience with accounting, audit, fintech, ERP, CRM, or document-management systems
  • Experience with OAuth, SSO, permissions, and customer data access patterns
  • Experience at an early-stage startup
  • Experience building integration platforms or connector frameworks
The Environment
  • 5 days a week on-site in NYC - no remote or hybrid
  • Startup hours and pace - this isn't a 9-to-5
  • Flat structure, no hierarchy - everyone ships
  • High ownership - you own outcomes, not just tasks
Benefits
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Wellhub Platinum membership
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Free company dinner every day
