As a Senior Electrical Engineer you will provide and coordinate electrical engineering services for engineering projects to ensure that electrical portion of projects are on schedule, under budget, safe, reliable and energy efficient. Provide electrical engineering, testing, inspection and troubleshooting services to Maintenance Department to ensure maximum reliability and safety of the Refinery Electrical System. Provide electrical engineering assistance to Operations to ensure that the Refinery power generation and distribution system is operated at maximum efficiency and reliability.

  • Provide technical assistance to the refinery on routine daily electrical issues, including providing troubleshooting assistance to the Electricians, making recommendation to the refinery on field repairs, interpretation of Electrical data gathered during Preventive Maintenance Work orders, and consultations with Design Engineering on electrical design packages.
  • Perform Project manager/Engineer duties on capital projects that are primarily electrical in nature, including AFE preparation, equipment and material purchasing, budget attainment, status reporting, project implementation, commissioning and completion.
  • Provide technical liaison between Electrical utilities company and Valero Refining Company.
  • Oversee all phases of electrical work on all Maintenance and capital projects.
  • Assist Operations and Maintenance Departments during electrical system disturbances and failures.
  • Prepare and submit Management of Changes (MOC) documentation related to electrical systems and projects and champion the change process through to Pre-Startup Review, Startup of the change and Closeout of the MOC.
  • Develop and steward electrical system reliability improvement opportunities, including participation in development and execution of a strategy to improve plant electrical reliability. This strategy involves capital improvement, preventive maintenance, repair strategies and electrical network.
  • Update and maintain SKM electrical system model as electrical system additions and changes occur.
  • Prepares Refinery short circuit studies, load flow studies, arc flash studies and motor starting studies, as needed.
  • Prepare medium voltage switching procedures. Coordinate and oversee the execution of these procedures by Operations or Maintenance personnel.
  • Propose amendments to Electrical Safety Policy as necessary to address latest codes and technology.
  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organizations in meetings to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate works.
  • Provide functional and final checkouts of new and modified Electrical System Installations.
  • Serve as ESARN representative for Valero Ardmore Refinery in monthly phone meetings and yearly face to face meetings.
  • Participate in incident investigations and generating incident reports or failures analysis for adverse incidents involving plant electrical system disturbances and electrical equipment failures.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or higher level degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5 years of related experience required.
  • Experience in electrical distribution up to 12.47KV, industrial cogeneration above 10MW, large project execution both engineering and field construction, protective relay coordination, application and testing, and hazardous area
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Ardmore Refinery, required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in refining or petrochemical environment preferred.
  • Experience with electrical distribution systems, large project execution both engineering and field construction, protective relay coordination, application and testing, and hazardous area classification preferred.
  • Experience with induction and synchronous motors and distribution transformers preferred.
