Position Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager for the Data Center Chiller special product engineering team. She/he works within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document electrical designs within the scope of products manufactured by the Data Center team. You will lead smaller projects or subsystems, coordinate cross-functional activities, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring quality and compliance in system integration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain proprietary electrical design systems for data center Chiller products. Creation of electrical wiring schematics, panel/terminal layout drawings and wire loom documentation.
  • Participate in design meetings and communicate with the project coordinator, design team members, and application engineers.
  • Coordinates the panel-build and line wiring for prototype and production units with internal or external employees.
  • Lead design efforts on subsystems, including component selection and layout.
  • Diligently consider all aspects of product operation in the design of an electrical/control system, including product compliance, product enhancements and safety-related issues.
  • Incumbent has contact with project engineers, project coordinators, plant engineers, operations personnel, component/equipment suppliers, fellow control engineers, etc.
  • Liaise with both project leadership and mechanical engineering personnel to create structured product configurable super BOMs for placement of selected electrical and control parts.
  • Instructs, explains, leads design group relating to the controls and electrical design of the product.
  • Exposed, but not limited to, the following areas: AC drive applications - pumps and EC motors, power distribution, switchgear, sensors and transducers.
  • Coordinates aspects of a given project which include project scheduling to meet project dates, purchasing components, evaluating new products, preparing manuals, and maintaining a project design file for permanent records.
  • Continually enhance skills and knowledge through on-the-job training and external seminars. Stay abreast of new developments in electrical design and apply that knowledge towards the technical enhancement of Modine machinery and processes.

Required Education & Qualifications
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience in electrical design work.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD. AutoCAD Electrical preferred.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a product development environment.
  • Knowledge and application of applicable electrical codes; NEC, UL (UL1995, UL60335, UL508A), IEC and CE.
  • Well versed in MS Office Excel, Word, Power-Point, etc.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Travel:
  • Must be able to travel to suppliers, and job sites as necessary (10-15%).
