ECF Engineering Consultants is a comprehensive engineering firm specializing in providing technical solutions to the Energy Markets, as well as to public and private sector entities in need of electrical and mechanical engineering support.


We serve these clients across a diverse spectrum of projects, offering consultancy on technology implementation, design solutions for electrical and mechanical systems, public health systems, and procurement and construction phase services.


Description

Electrical engineering design for commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential power distribution, lighting systems, renewable energy systems, fire detection systems, and low-voltage systems for data, communications, and access controls. The incumbent will need to provide technical expertise and responsible oversight on all building services electrical projects, including the design, supply, and installation of diesel and LP Gas emergency generators, transfer switching, UPS systems, and building automation control systems. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating their designs with other engineers, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines, as well as with interior designers, architects, project managers, specialist designers, and building owners, as needed.


The role involves developing and managing electrical projects starting from initial design and permitting, preparing bid documents and budgets, and offering contract administration services throughout construction and commissioning phases.


The individual shall undertake a significant role in the design, preparation of specifications, administrative duties, or field engineering concerning designated engineering projects under the oversight of their immediate supervisor or another qualified professional engineer. The individual must demonstrate proficiency in operating various design software tools necessary for executing design and engineering tasks related to the assignments. Additionally, the individual must have a comprehensive understanding of both fundamental and advanced issues involved in the development of construction documentation for the assigned project.


Key Responsibilities

1. Design of engineered systems of the largest size and highest complexity. Activities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Preparation of superior quality electrical construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention.
  • Performing site survey of existing system conditions for interface of new designs with existing electrical and control systems.
  • Design of Electrical systems, including low/medium voltage power distribution, standby/emergency generators, interior/exterior lighting for buildings, local area IT networks, access control, security, and fire alarm systems. Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical floor plans, equipment schematic diagrams, equipment Page 2 of 4 block diagrams, electrical load calculations, short circuit studies, protective device coordination studies, and arc flash studies.
  • Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all building systems.
  • Close coordination with the client and the entire design team, including owners, architects, contractors, members of other disciplines, and internal support staff to ensure: The design is consistent with the client’s vision/standards; A fully coordinated interdisciplinary design; The design schedule is maintained.
  • Monitor the project's construction activities to ensure they comply with plans and specifications. Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following: act as Resident Engineer on small projects. Interpret plans and specifications and utilize available information to ensure all project design requirements are met. Stay familiar with relevant engineering and construction codes and ensure compliance with all regulations. Prepare and/or oversee construction schedules to guarantee timely project completion. Implement and manage changes to the work in response to differing site conditions. Conduct on-site design reviews or investigations to verify method adequacy. Review, evaluate, and approve contractor invoices. Receive and inspect equipment to be installed on the project, and approve it for payment. Prepare reports and feasibility studies for management submission.
  • Serve as a project engineer or project manager on assigned projects.
  • Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
  • Be knowledgeable about the Client/Company’s drawing system, as well as their design, construction standards, and relevant industry codes and practices.
  • Prepare and/or monitor complex construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work.
  • Conduct on-site design or investigation work to ensure the adequacy of the contractor’s methods.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in a related field from an accredited University. Electrical Professional Engineer’s license desired (State of Florida)
  • 7 - 10 years of experience in engineering of related projects.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of industry and national codes and standards, including but not limited to NEC, Life Safety Code NFPA 101, NFPA 70/70E, IEEE, and International Building Code.
  • Experience with system design software, CADD, and Microsoft Office products required. Strong analytical and management skills
  • Willingness to travel for site surveys, project scope walks, and meetings.
