Job description

Drop Bury Supervisor

Department: Field Operations
Reports To: Operations Manager / Market Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Wisconsin / Michigan

Position Summary

The Drop Bury Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily field operations of Sunrise Telecom’s Drop Bury program within an assigned market. This position provides direct leadership and support to Drop Bury Technicians and subcontractor crews to ensure fiber and coax service drops are completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with customer and company standards.

The Drop Bury Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily field activities, monitoring production and quality, resolving field issues, conducting quality control inspections, and ensuring crews have the equipment, materials, and information necessary to successfully complete assigned work.

This position works closely with Drop Bury Dispatch, field leadership, contractors, and customer representatives to maintain production goals, resolve escalations, and ensure timely completion of assigned work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide daily direction to Drop Bury Technicians and subcontractor crews within the assigned market.
  • Coordinate with Drop Bury Dispatch to review daily workloads, priorities, routing, and outstanding work.
  • Monitor daily production and ensure crews are meeting established productivity and completion expectations.
  • Perform field quality control inspections to verify work meets Sunrise Telecom and customer specifications.
  • Ensure proper burial depth, cable placement, restoration, and installation practices are followed.
  • Verify underground utilities have been properly located and marked prior to excavation and ensure compliance with 811/Dig Safe requirements.
  • Identify and resolve field issues involving utility conflicts, access concerns, damaged facilities, customer concerns, equipment issues, and difficult job conditions.
  • Review incomplete, failed, or escalated jobs and determine the appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure crews accurately document completed work, including required notes, photographs, measurements, and other job information.
  • Monitor aging work and assist with resolving jobs that are approaching or exceeding required completion timelines.
  • Train, coach, and mentor field employees on proper installation techniques, safety requirements, equipment operation, and customer expectations.
  • Conduct regular safety observations and reinforce compliance with Sunrise Telecom and customer safety policies.
  • Assist with investigating damages, incidents, customer complaints, and quality concerns.
  • Monitor crew performance and provide coaching or corrective guidance when expectations are not being met.
  • Ensure crews have appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to complete assigned work.
  • Monitor the condition and proper use of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding production, staffing, quality, safety concerns, and operational challenges.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with customer representatives, contractors, technicians, and internal departments.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new Drop Bury employees as needed.
  • Support staffing and scheduling needs based on workload and production requirements.
  • Travel throughout the assigned market to inspect work sites and support field crews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of telecommunications, underground utility, Drop Bury, construction, or related field experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory, crew lead, or field leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with fiber and coax drop burial operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of underground utility locating and 811/Dig Safe requirements.
  • Knowledge of underground construction practices, including hand digging, trenching, plowing, and boring.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews, priorities, and field issues simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with employees, contractors, customers, and management.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use email, mobile applications, electronic work-order systems, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Ability to walk job sites and construction areas for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform other physical activities associated with field inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, materials, and equipment as required.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the assigned market.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required based on workload, weather, customer requirements, and operational needs.

Compensation will be determined based on relevant Drop Bury and telecommunications experience, previous supervisory experience, market knowledge, and overall qualifications.
