Position Summary...Walmart Marketplace is one of the fastest-growing U.S. e-commerce platforms. As we scale, protecting our customers, sellers, and brand through proactive risk management is essential. Our Seller Risk organization prevents bad actors from entering the ecosystem and monitors seller behavior throughout the lifecycle to maintain a safe, high-quality Marketplace.
We are looking for a highly skilled Director of Emerging Threats to lead strategies that identify and mitigate new and evolving marketplace risks. This leader will shape Walmart’s risk posture, strengthen automated detection capabilities, and ensure we stay ahead of marketplace fraud and abuse patterns.What you'll do...The Senior Director of Emerging Threats will oversee programs that detect and mitigate complex seller risks across onboarding, identity verification, lifecycle performance, and global expansion. This role requires deep marketplace and sellers risk expertise, strong cross-functional leadership, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. You incubate and lead a global team and collaborate with Data Science, Engineering, Business Development, Trust & Safety, Compliance, and Product to implement proactive risk strategies at scale. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Walmart Marketplace’s emerging-threat strategy across seller onboarding, ongoing monitoring, and enforcement.
  • Identify and assess new fraud vectors, Identity, behavioral heuristics counterfeit risk, prohibited/restricted goods violations, misrepresentation, and coordinated bad-actor networks.
  • Develop risk frameworks and early-signal detection strategies across the full seller lifecycle.
  • Partner with Data Science and Engineering to build advanced risk models, automation, dashboards, and tooling.
  • Establish risk appetite, governance processes, and performance health metrics with Trust & Safety, Partner with Compliance, on level II monitoring and Risk Oversight teams.
  • Provide executive-level briefings on threat trends, risk tradeoffs, and recommended interventions.
  • Serve as the Marketplace risk representative with external partners, including verification vendors, payment providers, and industry consortiums.
  • Lead and develop a global team of threat analysts, investigators, and strategists.
  • Drive continuous improvement in detection, prevention, and response capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience in marketplace risk, fraud, underwriting, trust & safety, or financial crimes.
  • 5+ years managing high-performing teams of 10+ people.
  • Deep expertise in analytics, specifically related to seller fraud, identity risk, counterfeit detection, and prohibited/restricted goods risks.
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills and prior experience in payments and marketplace risk management.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience partnering with engineering and data science teams to translate policy into defining model cutoffs and flash fraud risk management
  • Ability to navigate evolving global regulatory and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a large-scale marketplace or e-commerce environment.
  • Background in machine learning–driven risk models and threat intelligence.
  • Experience with global expansion risk or trust and safety frameworks.
  • Ability to design early-warning systems for emerging threats.
