The Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) software department within Raytheon is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to support the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) team. NASAMS is a cutting‑edge air defense system that protects critical assets and population centers from aerial threats by integrating advanced radar, command and control (C2), and missile systems. Platform Engineers design, optimize, and maintain the secure, scalable, mission‑critical software infrastructure that underpins radar, C2, and DevSecOps‑intensive systems. As a leader on our team, you will help shape platform architecture, drive modernization and ensure delivery of robust capabilities that support real‑time mission execution across programs. This role requires deep DevSecOps expertise, technical leadership and the ability to influence architecture and engineering strategy across multiple teams. This position is located onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

What You Will Do
  • Implement platform architecture and modernization strategies for NASAMS mission systems, including automation and secure platform design.
  • Develop resilient, scalable, and secure platform environments using Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, Artifactory and related technologies.
  • Work on end‑to‑end DevSecOps workflows to support high‑frequency, high‑quality deployments across MDS programs.
  • Work on CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) to ensure secure, automated build, test and release processes at scale.
  • Work on cross‑program integration efforts spanning Software, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Platform and Integration & Test teams.
  • Help mentor and guide Platform Engineers, provide technical direction and foster a culture of learning and collaboration.
  • Provide leadership in Agile Scrum/Kanban environments, supporting planning, estimation and technical execution.
  • Spearhead lab design and management activities.

Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience in Linux platform engineering and administration.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible and virtualization tools such as VMware/KVM.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools such as Python, Bash and PowerShell.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) and secure build/deployment architectures.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required after start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with radar, C2, or large‑scale real‑time defense systems.
  • Experience applying DevSecOps tools (Docker, Ansible Tower, Artifactory, GitHub/Bitbucket) in secure or classified environments.
  • Experience in high‑availability systems, distributed architectures, or high‑performance computing environments.
  • Experience architecting solutions across multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Experience with strong communication skills.
  • Experience with Agile management tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience with mission‑critical platform or DevSecOps environments for distributed or real‑time systems.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
