Principal Software Engineer, UX - Asset Management Technology Foundations
Note: Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.
The Role
We are seeking a Principal Engineer specializing in UX Design Systems to lead the architecture, quality, and adoption of enterprise design system.
This is a senior hands-on technical role with a strong UX bar. You will be responsible for translating user experience principles into scalable, reusable, and accessible design system assets-including design tokens, component libraries (e.g., PrimeNG-based), theming frameworks, and UX standards.
You will work at the intersection of UX design and engineering, ensuring that the design system is both user-centered and production-ready, enabling teams to deliver consistent, high-quality experiences across a complex application ecosystem.
The Expertise & Skills You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Computer Science, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Extensive experience building and scaling enterprise design systems (tokens, theming, component libraries, governance).
  • Proven ability to translate UX design into reusable, systemized engineering assets adopted across large ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience with component ecosystems such as PrimeNG or equivalent UI libraries.
  • Deep expertise with Figma and modern design-to-development workflows.
  • Experience driving UX consistency across multi-application platforms - Desktop, Web and Mobile.
  • Experience with desktop interoperability platforms and standards, including FDC3, and related interop products, enabling application composition, context sharing, and cross-application workflows would be a plus.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled UX patterns, such as:
    • Context-aware interfaces
    • Intelligent workflows
    • Personalization and adaptive UI
  • Ability to influence UX standards, design system adoption, and platform direction at scale.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and TypeScript, with deep expertise in building scalable, maintainable UI systems.
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining:
    • Design token systems
    • Reusable UI components and patterns
    • Theming and styling architectures
  • Experience working with and extending component frameworks (e.g., PrimeNG) to align with enterprise UX standards.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
  • Ability to ensure visual and interaction consistency across diverse applications.
  • Experience collaborating closely with designers to ensure fidelity between design and implementation.
  • Ability to create prototypes, interaction patterns, and UX validations as needed.
  • Familiarity with integrating AI tooling into the design system lifecycle, including:
    • AI-assisted design generation (e.g., Figma AI, Copilot)
    • Code generation and UI scaffolding
    • Automated UX validation and accessibility checks
  • Understanding of API-driven UI integration and shared platform services.
  • Strong focus on performance, usability, and design quality

The Team
Architecture and Technology Foundation (ATF) team is a central team within Asset Management that provides ready-to-use solutions composed of standard technology stacks, development frameworks, reusable software components and services. As a member of the team, you will work on Integrated Experience Platform capabilities - web and desktop experience platforms, design systems, shared component libraries and core UI frameworks that power applications across Asset Management.
Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
The base salary range for this position is $107,000-216,000 USD per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
