What you will be doing

Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing engineering expertise to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of aluminum extrusion manufacturing equipment and processes. This position leads mechanical engineering projects, equipment improvements, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and other engineering functions.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for aluminum extrusion presses, billet heating systems, handling systems, saws, pullers, runout tables, aging ovens, packaging equipment, and related manufacturing systems.
  • Lead equipment reliability, productivity, and continuous improvement projects to improve safety, quality, throughput, and operating cost.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical equipment and process issues and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Design, specify, modify, and improve equipment, components, tooling, and mechanical systems.
  • Develop engineering specifications, equipment layouts, drawings, calculations, and project documentation.
  • Lead capital projects from concept and justification through installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Operations to identify equipment reliability opportunities and eliminate recurring failures.
  • Analyze equipment performance, downtime, and process data to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical production equipment.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with applicable safety, environmental, and industry standards. 
  • Work with suppliers and contractors on equipment selection, design, installation, and technical issues. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies. 
  • Participate in equipment and process risk assessments, MOC activities, and project reviews. 
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
What will make you successful?

Required Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Experience with aluminum extrusion or metals processing.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, drives, conveyors, and industrial equipment.
  • Experience with engineering drawings, CAD, equipment specifications, and project management.
