TITLE: Sr. Data Scientist

LOCATION: New York City, London or Jacksonville (Hybrid)

SALARY: 160,000 - 180,000 base + bonus & equity (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of private markets and alternative investments, coupled with a strong ability to visualize complex data and communicate insights effectively. As a Data Scientist at Canoe, you will play a crucial role mining our large data corpus for new, unique, and compelling insights related to the $10 Trillion alternative investment market.

What Youโ€™ll Do:

  • Utilize advanced SQL skills and AI tools to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources.

  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets related to private markets and alternative investments.

  • Develop and implement data models and algorithms to uncover insights and trends.

  • Create compelling and easy-to-understand data visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and build data-driven products and solutions.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data science, finance, and technology.

  • Work with the Product and Machine Learning teams to develop new strategies for data extraction from unstructured text such as PDFโ€™s.

What Weโ€™re Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on private markets and alternative investments.

  • Strong executive presence, with the ability to instill confidence in senior stakeholders and represent the organization with credibility and polish.

  • Expertise in SQL and Python.

  • An understanding of performance measurement for private market investments including drawdown funds, hedge funds, private debt, direct investments in private companies, and other illiquid assets.

  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.

  • Strong skills in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js) and techniques.

  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear and concise reports and documentation.

  • Proficiency in Python.

  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Data Science, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Experience with AWS, Snowflake, Postgres, and MySQL.

  • Familiarity with financial modeling and investment analysis.

  • Experience building and launching B2B products.

  • Experience building products with LLMs, and using AI agents to automate processes.

  • Experience working with Data Engineering teams to clean and productionize data pipelines.

  • An understanding of fund accounting and forecasting models.

  • Experience working in family office, institutional investor or PE/VC environment.
