Job description

Field CISO

US Signal is a leading data center services provider, offering secure, reliable network, cloud hosting, colocation, data protection, and disaster recovery services — all powered by its expansive, robust fiber network. US Signal also helps customers optimize their IT resources through the provision of managed services and professional services.

We are seeking a Field CISO to join our team! Ideally this role will work from our Headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI in a hybrid capacity, however, being fully remote is also a possibility with occasional travel to Grand Rapids, MI.

Advisory CISO, Cybersecurity & Compliance

Every company needs a trusted voice in the room when the board asks, "are we secure?" For our customers, that voice is you.

We're looking for a senior cybersecurity executive to serve as a fractional CISO for our customers, the strategic advisor who turns risk and compliance conversations into confident business decisions. You'll sit at the intersection of sales and delivery: helping prospects see the path to a stronger security posture before they sign, then owning that relationship as their trusted advisor long after.

What you'll actually do:

  • Win trust before the contract is signed. Join discovery calls as the security expert in the room. Assess a prospect's risk posture, shape the right solution, and give sales teams the credibility that closes deals.
  • Be the fractional security executive customers rely on. Build cybersecurity roadmaps, lead board-level briefings, and guide IT leaders and compliance programs across SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, CMMC, NIST CSF, and ISO 27001, turning audit prep and risk mitigation into a competitive advantage instead of a headache.
  • Translate technical risk into business language. You'll be the person executives and boards call when they need someone to make sense of a threat landscape, a compliance gap, or a cyber insurance requirement, and tell them what to actually do about it.
  • Shape how we deliver security, everywhere. Your fingerprints will be on our advisory methodology, our thought leadership, and the way our SOC/MDR and managed security services get positioned in the market.
  • Execute customer advisory engagements helping customers measurably improve their security posture.

What makes this role different: you're not writing reports that sit in a drawer. You're the executive presence that keeps customers renewing, expanding, and sleeping better at night — measured in retention, trust, and real security outcomes, not just deliverables.

Requirements

What you bring to the team:

  • Cybersecurity, Risk & Compliance Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity strategy, governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), with deep knowledge of cloud, network, and application security, enterprise risk management, and leading security frameworks and regulations. Proven experience leading security assessments, compliance reviews, and audit readiness initiatives across frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, CMMC, NIST, and ISO 27001 through successful completion. Maintains professional credibility through advanced industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCISO, CRISC, CGEIT, CISA, CCSP, CIPP, or equivalent credentials.
  • Executive Business Acumen & Influence: Ability to translate complex cybersecurity, compliance, and operational risks into clear business and financial impacts, enabling informed decision-making by executives and boards. Demonstrates exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to build executive trust, influence strategic decisions, and support business growth across diverse industries and security maturity levels.
  • Strategic Advisory & Client Leadership: Proven ability to lead and deliver cybersecurity advisory services across a portfolio of customers, leveraging repeatable methodologies, objective and vendor-neutral guidance, and effective prioritization to drive security program maturity, compliance readiness, and measurable business outcomes. Brings customer-facing consulting and pre-sales experience, partnering with stakeholders to shape solutions, support revenue growth, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.
  • Ability to travel, as needed.
  • Simplify: Problem Solving, Strategic Thinking
  • Know the Mission: Mission Alignment, Strategic Awareness
  • Act Like an Owner: Accountability, Leadership, Business Acumen

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4+ Years Professional Experience in Information Security, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or master's) preferred.

Experience:

  • 10+ Years Experience in information security and compliance experience, including prior experience as a CISO, vCISO, or senior security leader accountable for enterprise security programs.

What We Offer:

In return for your hard work and commitment, you will enjoy a supportive and inclusive workplace, along with the following benefits:

  • Generous paid time off policy, including vacation and 10 paid holidays
  • Competitive and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits plans with Flexible Spending benefits including medical/dental expenses and dependent care
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a generous contribution
  • Group Term Life Insurance covered 100% by employer
  • Wellness Incentive to promote overall employee well-being
  • Paid volunteer time
  • Business casual dress code

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position may be performed in either a standard office setting or a home office environment. It requires prolonged periods of sitting, frequent use of a computer and other office equipment, and effective time management in a self-directed work environment. Occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds may be required.

All US Signal employees will comply with US Signal Information Security policies to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of US Signal and customer data. All employees are responsible to ensure actions comply with state and federal regulations and requirements.

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas at this time.

US Signal is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 – $190,000 per year, depending on location, skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
