What is a senior CRM developer?

Senior CRM Developers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems for organizations. They specialize in customizing CRM platforms like Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or HubSpot to meet business needs, integrate with other systems, and enhance user experience. Their responsibilities often include leading technical projects, mentoring junior developers, and ensuring the CRM system supports sales, marketing, and customer service processes effectively. Senior CRM Developers also troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and keep the system updated with the latest features.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior CRM developer?

To thrive as a Senior CRM Developer, you need advanced programming skills, deep understanding of CRM platforms (such as Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics), and experience with data integration and customization, usually backed by a relevant degree and industry certifications. Proficiency with technical tools like CRM SDKs, APIs, workflow automation, and version control systems is typically expected. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills set top performers apart in this role. These capabilities are essential for delivering tailored CRM solutions that enhance business processes and drive user adoption.

What are some common challenges a senior CRM developer faces when integrating third-party systems with a CRM platform?

Senior CRM Developers often encounter challenges such as varying data formats, inconsistent API documentation, and security concerns when integrating third-party systems. Addressing data integrity and synchronization issues is critical to ensure a seamless user experience and reliable reporting. Collaborating closely with other IT teams and stakeholders is essential to gather requirements and resolve integration obstacles efficiently. Staying updated on the latest CRM platform capabilities and integration best practices also helps in overcoming these challenges.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Senior Salesforce CRM Developer to serve as a technical leader on our Salesforce platform. In this role, you will own the architecture and delivery of complex enhancements, drive platform strategy, and serve as a subject matter expert across CRM development and integration. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on Salesforce development expertise, a strong command of Salesforce Connect and external data integration patterns, and a track record of delivering enterprise-grade solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Platform Development & Architecture

  • Architect, develop, and deploy sophisticated Salesforce solutions including Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), platform events, and custom APIs.
  • Design and implement StoreConnect integrations for an e-commerce environment, ensuring seamless data flows between the storefront, Salesforce core, and downstream systems.
  • Design and implement Salesforce Connect integrations using OData protocols and External Objects to surface real-time external data within Salesforce without data replication.
  • Evaluate and recommend integration patterns — Salesforce Connect, REST/SOAP APIs, middleware platforms, or ETL — based on data volume, latency, and business requirements.
  • Lead end-to-end enhancement projects, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, and production deployment.

AI & Emerging Technology

  • Evaluate and pilot Salesforce AI capabilities including Agentforce and Data Cloud, identifying opportunities to automate workflows and surface intelligent insights across subsidiaries.
  • Stay current on Salesforce releases and the broader platform roadmap; assess feature impact on existing configurations, customizations, and integrations tri-annually and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Integration & Data Governance

  • Manage and optimize integrations between Salesforce and third-party enterprise systems (NetSuite ERP, billing, marketing platforms, etc.).
  • Oversee data governance practices including data quality, deduplication, migration, and access controls.
  • Lead platform health reviews, proactively identify technical debt, and champion continuous improvement initiatives.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a technical mentor to junior and mid-level developers, conducting code reviews and establishing development standards.
  • Partner with architects, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate complex business processes into scalable, maintainable platform solutions.
  • Support administrative controls such as role configuration and user account setup on an as-needed basis to supplement the Salesforce Administrator function.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of hands-on Salesforce development experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Advanced proficiency in Apex, SOQL/SOSL, Lightning Web Components, and declarative automation tools (Flow, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with Salesforce Connect, including configuration of external data sources, OData adapters, and External Objects.
  • Strong understanding of integration architecture — REST/SOAP APIs, platform events, change data capture, and middleware tools.
  • Deep knowledge of the Salesforce security model, sharing architecture, and governor limits.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling and CI/CD pipelines (Salesforce CLI, Gearset, Copado, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Background:

  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II; additional certifications strongly preferred (Administrator, Integration Architecture Designer, Sales/Service Cloud Consultant, etc.).
  • Experience with Salesforce Connect custom adapters using Apex Connector Framework for non-OData sources.
  • Familiarity with CPQ, Revenue Cloud, Experience Cloud, Service Cloud or Marketing Cloud.
  • Exposure to enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica, or Workato.
  • Experience in agile/scrum environments with formal sprint and backlog management.
