We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Payments Solution Specialist to join our Information Technology team! Reporting to the Chief Information & Technology Officer, this role can be based in Winnipeg, MB, Steinbach, MB, or performed remotely from anywhere in Canada, with hybrid work arrangements also available.

The Senior Payments Solution Specialist is responsible for shaping and leading SCU's payments technology roadmap, architecture, and integration approach. This role will support payment modernization initiatives, including Consumer-Driven Finance, Real-Time Rail, Interac e-Transfer, payment integrations, core banking payment capabilities, and related digital banking services. Working collaboratively across business, technology, security, operations, vendors, and industry partners, the successful candidate will translate payment opportunities into practical, secure, and reliable solutions that enhance the experience of SCU members and staff.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Lead the analysis, design, implementation, and enhancement of payment solutions to support SCU's strategic objectives.
  • Develop and maintain payment architectures, integrations, APIs, data exchanges, and operational workflows across internal and external platforms.
  • Monitor emerging payment technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Act as the organization's subject matter expert on payments modernization initiatives, including Real-Time Rail, Consumer-Driven Finance, ISO 20022, and related industry developments.
  • Collaborate with business, technology, operations, risk, compliance, security, and vendor partners to successfully deliver payment initiatives.
  • Assess solution impacts, operational dependencies, risks, and implementation requirements to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure payment solutions meet enterprise standards for security, resilience, supportability, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support project delivery activities including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, implementation, and transition to operations.
  • Facilitate stakeholder and vendor collaboration to resolve issues, manage dependencies, and achieve project objectives.
  • Contribute to incident management, root cause analysis, business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities and recommend solutions that enhance member experience, operational efficiency, and business value.
  • Represent SCU in industry working groups, partner discussions, and payments modernization initiatives while building strong relationships across the payments ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain SCU's payments roadmap to support organizational growth, innovation, and long-term strategic objectives.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Technology, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 7-9 years of experience in technology, banking, financial services, payments, solution architecture, systems integration, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting enterprise technology solutions and system integrations, including APIs, core banking platforms, digital channels, and third-party applications.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies, requirements gathering, technical documentation, operational support, incident management, and problem resolution processes.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian payments’ ecosystem, including financial institutions, payment processors, payment networks, fintechs, and related regulatory environments.
  • Familiarity with payments modernization initiatives and technologies such as Consumer-Driven Finance, Real-Time Rail, Interac e-Transfer, ISO 20022, digital banking platforms, fraud prevention solutions, and payment operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business and technical requirements, troubleshoot complex integration challenges, and develop practical, effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and senior leaders.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering business value.
  • Experience with Fiserv DNA, VeriPark/VeriChannel, Salesforce, Microsoft Azure, API management platforms, enterprise integration technologies, or data platforms is considered an asset.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, ITIL, TOGAF, Microsoft Azure, business continuity/resiliency credentials, or payments-related certifications are considered assets.
