Job description

Sr. Creative Operations Specialist

We are seeking a freelance Sr. Creative Operations Specialist to improve and scale creative production through hands-on technical workflow automation. This is not a traditional creative project management role. We are looking for a creative technologist who understands the production designer environment and can build practical solutions within Adobe Creative Cloud-especially Adobe InDesign-to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and accelerate print and digital asset delivery.

The ideal candidate brings a blend of creative production knowledge, operational discipline, and deep Adobe scripting and automation expertise. You will partner with Creative, Marketing, Merchandising, Sales, Product, and Technology teams to identify workflow bottlenecks, develop scalable production solutions, and help modernize the tools and processes that support high-volume creative work.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, test, and maintain scripts and automations within Adobe Creative Cloud applications, with a strong emphasis on Adobe InDesign.
  • Create technical solutions that streamline repetitive production tasks, improve file accuracy, standardize outputs, and reduce time to delivery.
  • Evaluate current creative production workflows, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process improvements grounded in hands-on production realities.
  • Partner directly with designers, production artists, creative leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate workflow needs into usable automation solutions.
  • Develop reusable templates, scripts, standards, documentation, and training materials that support consistent adoption across the creative team.
  • Support the evolution of creative operations processes, including intake, prioritization, approvals, handoffs, capacity planning, and production governance.
  • Assess and support creative workflow tools, including Adobe Workfront or similar platforms, while ensuring workflow systems complement Adobe-based production automation.
  • Research, test, and introduce AI-enabled tools and creative technologies that can enhance production efficiency, quality, and team productivity.
  • Use operational data, workflow metrics, and stakeholder feedback to measure the impact of automation and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Help lead change management for new creative technologies and workflows through clear communication, training, coaching, and practical implementation support.

What You'll Bring

  • 5-8 years of experience in creative production, creative operations, production design, creative technology, workflow automation, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience scripting and automating workflows in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe InDesign.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and the practical needs of print and digital creative production environments.
  • Experience building tools, scripts, templates, or automated workflows that improve creative production speed, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Working knowledge of relevant scripting and automation approaches, such as JavaScript, ExtendScript, InDesign scripting, Adobe APIs, or comparable technical solutions.
  • Ability to diagnose production workflow challenges and develop pragmatic technical solutions for creative teams.
  • Experience collaborating with designers, creative directors, marketers, production teams, and technology partners in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Workfront, digital asset management systems, Microsoft 365 collaboration tools, and workflow platforms is helpful.
  • Exposure to AI tools and AI-enabled creative workflows is valued, particularly where AI can support automation, production efficiency, or content operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Profile

This role is well suited to candidates with backgrounds such as Creative Technologist, Creative Automation Specialist, Creative Production Engineer, Adobe Workflow Automation Specialist, or a production-focused creative operations professional with substantial Adobe scripting expertise.

Important: Experience with project management or workflow platforms alone is not sufficient. Candidates must bring proven, hands-on Adobe scripting and automation capability, particularly within InDesign.
