Job Description Product Controller - Capital Markets About the Role We're seeking a Controller to own, lead, and shape the accounting function for our capital markets business. This role is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of our trading and capital markets activity including trade accounting, regulatory capital, and counterparty/collateral positions and for setting the strategic direction of the systems and controls that support it. In this high-impact, high-visibility role, the Controller will drive engagement with senior leadership and provide guidance on significant and technical accounting matters specific to capital markets products.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with real capital markets or broker-dealer accounting depth a high-level, independent thinker who values impact over effort. We're looking for a self-motivated owner with high standards for excellence who is willing to roll up their sleeves to get things done. The Controller will report to senior finance leadership and is located in New York City.

Responsibilities Own and scale the accounting function supporting our capital markets business, including trade accounting, P&L substantiation, and reconciliation with front-office/trading teams Provide technical accounting leadership on complex capital markets matters including revenue recognition, derivatives/financial instruments accounting, and consolidation Oversee regulatory capital calculations and required filings (e.g., net capital, FOCUS, or comparable regulatory reporting), coordinating with Compliance and Legal as needed Own accounting for collateral, margin, and counterparty cash management related to trading activity Oversee and drive execution of regular and ad hoc financial reporting and statements to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, other internal stakeholders, investors, and auditors Ensure accuracy of historical financial records in accordance with GAAP and support implementation of new accounting standards affecting capital markets products Set the strategic direction for financial systems and procedures including trading/portfolio systems to ensure proper automation, auditability, and controls Oversee tax and treasury; support outside accountants and counsel on required tax filings and optimize treasury operations Own and manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and relevant regulators Develop, implement, and maintain internal control guidelines, policy, and procedure Ensure compliance with state, federal, and foreign regulatory requirements, and professional standards Requirements Minimum of 8+ years of experience in accounting/finance, with meaningful experience at a broker-dealer, bank, or capital markets-focused financial institution Strong knowledge of GAAP, including financial instruments and derivatives accounting; CPA required Experience with regulatory capital and reporting requirements (e.g., net capital rules, FOCUS filings) strongly preferred Results-oriented leader with ability to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment A strategic, analytical thinker with an ownership mentality and excellent communication skills Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP; experience with Enfusion or other trading/portfolio systems preferred Demonstrated experience independently identifying and driving process improvements At Empower Staffing, we are dedicated to connecting top talent with leading companies.
