Mark Thomas is hiring a Construction Inspector for Construction Management team! Under the supervision of a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager, the Construction Inspector uses their relevant experience to observe/evaluate project construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, and other appropriate standards. The Inspector may act as a representative for the Resident Engineer (RE) or Construction Manager (CM) as assigned or delegated. The Inspector has full authority, in matters of safety related to imminent hazard or danger.
Construction Inspectors are responsible for assisting the RE, Senior Inspector, and/or CM in all aspects of required field and office construction work, including but not limited to, inspection of non-structural and structural construction operations, inspection of traffic control system compliance, CCO preparation and analysis, CPM scheduling analysis, and SWPPP enforcement. Other areas may include but are not necessarily limited to electrical & instrumentation work, plumbing and piping, power and controls, drainage systems, landscaping, and grading.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reads and interprets project plans, specifications, permits, and other pertinent contract documents and exercise sound engineering and construction judgement
  • Documents and informs appropriate representative of relevant observations, including the progress of the work, problems that develop and works proactively in identifying potential problems/issues
  • Prepares and submits safety meeting documentation as assigned in a timely manner
  • As directed, prepares clear and accurate reports, diaries and photographs recording daily construction progress
  • Measures, calculates, and documents quantities of construction materials in accordance with designated procedures, formats, and computer programs
  • Verifies contractor's work and materials conforms to contractual requirements
  • Updates As-Built drawings
  • Provides support to construction project team for change order preparation and monitoring
  • Coordinates surveys, material testing, and sampling as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Holds a high school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • A two-year Associates degree in relevant area a plus
  • 3-5+ years progressively responsible experience in construction inspection, or 6-8+ years of general construction experience
  • Demonstrates knowledge in construction inspection applications
  • Knowledge and direct experience with residential pavement rehabilitation projects
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project
  • Possession of a valid driver's license - must meet driver eligibility requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Competent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The hourly wage for covered work is determined by state prevailing wage determinations. Senior Construction Inspector candidates will also be considered.
