We specialize in the design of single and multi-family developments as well as commercial projects. Our team works with clients and jurisdictions to transform small and large tracts of land into completed developments. This includes land planning, zoning assistance, land surveying, color exhibits, preparation of construction plans, plats, construction staking, and as-builts. We work with clients and their design team throughout the entire process culminating in final completion of construction. Our clients include many nationally known builders and developers but also local production and custom home builders.

Summary Job Statement

The Senior Civil CAD Technician is responsible for preparing and coordinating detailed civil engineering plans and construction documents for residential and commercial land development projects. Working directly with Project Managers and engineering staff, this position utilizes advanced CAD and Civil 3D expertise to transform engineering concepts into accurate project deliverables. The Senior Civil CAD Technician integrates engineering and survey data, supports projects from planning through construction, and serves as a technical resource to the project team while promoting quality and efficiency in project execution.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Computer-Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive CAD drafting experience within civil engineering, land development, surveying, or a related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Thorough understanding of residential and commercial land development design principles and construction documentation.
  • Experience preparing and coordinating grading plans, utility plans, stormwater management systems, pipe networks, drainage infrastructure, and related civil engineering improvements.
  • Experience preparing construction staking exhibits and coordinating project information with survey operations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations, survey data, legal descriptions, plats, and project specifications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced CAD staff.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and municipal design standards and permitting requirements preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and revise civil engineering plans, construction documents, and exhibits for residential and commercial land development projects.
  • Develop site layouts, grading plans, utility plans, stormwater management systems, pipe networks, drainage infrastructure, erosion control plans, and other project-specific deliverables.
  • Prepare construction staking exhibits and coordinate project information with survey operations and field personnel.
  • Incorporate engineering calculations, survey data, field information, and municipal requirements into project drawings.
  • Work directly with Project Managers and engineering staff to support project planning, design, permitting, bidding, and construction activities.
  • Coordinate with project team members to ensure project schedules, milestones, and client expectations are achieved.
  • Review drawings and project documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Identify and communicate potential design conflicts, drafting discrepancies, and constructability concerns to the project team.
  • Assist with maintaining CAD standards, templates, and drafting best practices to promote consistency and efficiency across projects.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior CAD technicians as needed.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Stay current with Civil 3D software enhancements, industry trends, and applicable engineering and drafting standards.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Project Managers, engineers, survey personnel, clients, contractors, municipalities, and other project stakeholders.
