Responsibilities

In this position, the Designer will work with a team of engineers for the pursuit, design and production of various civil engineering projects, including the following responsibilities: 

  • Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/ mechanical/ electrical/ plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations
  • Interacts with clients and team members regarding project information
  • Reviews project specifications - including old drawings with site information and city block maps
  • Determines and adheres to appropriate federal/state regulations
  • Designs project layout and details (e.g., utility distribution, flood protection, parking, and traffic flow, etc.) using appropriate design software
  • Spot-checks calculations and back-checks plan mark-ups and completed drafting
  • Guides/assists other designers regarding issues such as codes, deflection criteria, and software
  • Coordinates with city staff in obtaining permits and/or special requests
  • Reviews project proposal and organizes project's work requirements and staffing needs
  • Delegates project work to others (e.g., project team members, CAD operators, contractors)
  • Reviews project status report against budget and schedule
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5-7 minimum prior years of related experience
  • Basic drafting/CAD training a plus
  • Strong visual design skills
