Senior Mechanical Engineer (Engineer III)

Location: Oro Valley, AZ
Contract Duration: 3 months to 1 year (possible extension)
Shift: 1st Shift | Full-Time | 40 hrs/week

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (Engineer III) to join our client’s Airframe Systems team in Tucson, AZ. This is a hands-on, senior-level role supporting the design, analysis, and packaging of aerospace hardware for electronic components.

You’ll contribute to the full product lifecycle — from concept design to testing and production — applying advanced mechanical engineering and FEA expertise to develop reliable, high-performance systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design and analysis for electronic packaging of aerospace hardware

  • Create and update 3D/2D CAD models (SolidWorks preferred) for sheet metal, machined, plastic, and cast parts

  • Develop detailed drawing packages, BOMs, assembly docs, and engineering change orders

  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) — both structural and thermal (ANSYS preferred)

  • Perform mechanical/environmental testing, weight analysis, and prototype builds

  • Prepare technical reports and present findings clearly to stakeholders

  • Support DFMEA/PFMEA and risk-management reviews

  • Stay current on aerospace packaging technologies, materials, and processes

  • Mentor junior engineers and support process improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 8+ years of relevant mechanical design and analysis experience

  • Advanced knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks)

  • Proficiency in FEA (ANSYS)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication — able to present concepts across all levels

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to shifting priorities

Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Familiarity with DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, ARP standards

  • Experience in electronics packaging for aerospace or defense applications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
