Position Responsibilities:

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer/Architect to lead the design, modernization, and migration of enterprise file services from on-premises NetApp environments to AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP. In this role, you will drive architecture decisions, execute large-scale migrations, and guide technical governance in close partnership with cloud, networking, infrastructure, and application teams.

The ideal candidate possesses deep technical leadership skills in architecture design, Terraform automation, migration planning, disaster recovery strategy, and operational readiness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and validate AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP architectures for both primary and disaster recovery environments.
  • Evaluate, improve, and enhance existing Terraform modules for FSx provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with cloud networking teams to establish robust connectivity, route configurations, access control, and security measures for cloud-based file services.
  • Lead and execute migration efforts using AWS DataSync, SnapMirror replication, and other AWS-native migration tools.
  • Coordinate migration and cutover activities while minimizing business disruption.
  • Track migration progress across diverse workloads, storage volumes, and user environments.
  • Work closely with stakeholders - including infrastructure, application, directory services, and business teams - to gather and refine requirements.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into actionable architectural blueprints and migration strategies.
  • Prepare thorough architecture reviews, migration proposals, and technical documentation, and present for review and approval by technical governance boards.
  • Document all design decisions, risk assessments, tradeoffs, and disaster recovery approaches.
  • Maintain Jira epics, user stories, backlog items, and provide timely status updates for active migration workstreams.
  • Ensure that migration activities are fully integrated with existing DevOps pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and oversight throughout all phases of the project, including planning, execution, testing, and transition to operational support.

Essential Skills, Experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
  • In-depth knowledge and administration experience with NetApp ONTAP.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP solutions.
  • Proficiency in AWS DataSync for migration purposes.
  • Solid understanding of SnapMirror replication and associated data migration methodologies.
  • Advanced skills in Terraform, including module development, continuous improvement, and effective adoption in a production environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of cloud networking concepts: routing, connectivity, security architecture, and access controls.
  • Experience implementing and operating within DevOps frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Strong background in Jira use for backlog administration, planning, and routine status reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather business and technical requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions and migration plans.
  • Experience presenting solution architectures and migration plans to technical governance or architecture review boards.
  • Outstanding documentation, verbal, and written communication skills; highly organized with great attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience migrating large-scale enterprise NAS environments to AWS is highly preferred.
  • Experience working within Unix-based environments.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Unified LDAP integration and identity-dependent file services is a plus.
  • Experience designing and supporting multi-region disaster recovery architectures or active-active cloud environments.
  • AWS and/or NetApp certifications are highly desirable.
