Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
 
As a Cement Engineer – SR, you will use your knowledge and experience to support operations, engineering, and other support functions to drive flawless service delivery.  You will mentor junior operations and engineering personnel in all aspects of the cementing process, including pre-job planning, loading, lab testing, equipment delivery, and personnel and asset assignment.  You will be expected to perform audits on various procedures involved in the planning and execution of a cement job to ensure they are performed to NexTier standards.  You will lead various projects and investigations to improve efficiency and service quality.  In conjunction with sales, you will work directly with customers to find solutions to unique challenges in both design and execution.
Key Accountabilities
  • Conducts activities in accordance with the Company’s HSE guidelines.  Promotes safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and supervision to field operating personnel, utilizing in-depth product and equipment knowledge, company, customer, or industry approved methods and procedures, to deliver a high level of service quality to the customer.
  • Act as a positive representative of the NexTier brand in all job functions, whether internal or external.
  • Mentor junior engineering and operations personnel in all aspects of the cementing operation, including pre-job planning, wellsite execution, job procedure and contingency plan development.
  • Conduct periodic audits of wellsite operations to ensure adherence to NexTier standards.
  • Provides cementing job designs, makes recommendations, and generates cementing proposals for customer base in designated district.
  • Lead training sessions for junior operations and engineering personnel.
  • Lead projects to drive profitability improvement through reducing product cost, improving efficiency, or improving service quality.
  • Lead investigations into service quality and HSE incidents.
  • Work directly with customer engineers to develop solutions to technical challenges.
  • Perform post-job evaluations, providing recommendations and improvement actions as needed. May be required a complete a post-job report.
  • Able to review and evaluate Cement Bond Logs in conjunction with all available data, to determine effectiveness of cement placement, and to make improvement recommendations for future jobs. 
  • In conjunction with sales, develop and present periodic KPI (key performance indicator) reviews to key customers.
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A firm understanding of hydraulics, mechanical power, and chemistry.
  • Knowledge generally associated with 4+ years of experience as an engineer.
  • Understands advanced cementing principles including cement sheath mechanical property theory.
  • Able to use and interpret results for the advanced features of Cempro+ and CentraDesign.
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office applications, Excel, MS Word, etc.
  • Multitasking, interpersonal communication and attention to detail are all required skills.
  • Competent in all functions required of Cement Engineer - II.
