Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Cartography Team Leader onsite at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading Cartography development initiatives and quality assurance efforts for our aviation products while supervising a team of Cartography Technicians.
Essential Functions
  • Directly supervise, lead, direct, and guide the work of Cartography Technicians
  • Lead a team of Cartography Technicians in the maintenance and development of new and existing data sources
  • Collect periodic evaluation/sampling of cartographers' work to maintain the integrity of Garmin's databases and product quality
  • Work with Cartography Management and Software Engineering to specify cartography tools improvements or new features
  • Ensure implementation and testing of product configurations, map builds and unit compatibility emphasizing quality checks have been met for Garmin's cartography products under the guidance of Cartography Management
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Cartography Management and peers in determining and meeting product requirements
  • Provide training and guidance of Quality Assurance measures to Cartography Technicians to ensure product and market needs are satisfied and implement improvements as required by product and market needs
  • Responsible for the full development life cycle ranging from high level project planning, architecture and delivery
  • Serve as the technical reference to the whole development team including researching complex technical issues and providing technical direction
  • Facilitate team meetings using appropriate brainstorming, problem solving, decision making, and project planning techniques
  • Monitor progress and reports on milestone achievements
  • Work with Cartography Management to build and maintain high performing team(s) by recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding talent
  • Promote team member engagement and effectiveness by providing constructive feedback and promoting personal development, including writing and conducting annual performance appraisals
  • Develop and manage team and individual performance and capacity metrics to identify successful operations or areas where improvement is needed, while also working to ensure that all organizational objectives are met
  • Demonstrate ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuous education
  • Accept, develop and execute projects and other miscellaneous Cartography duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geosciences or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Met requirements for Senior Cartography Technician or higher
