We are seeking an experienced ย  Senior ย  Backend ย  Developer/ Engineer to join ourย  hybridย  agile team ย  and ย  help buildย  and scale our ย  dataย  platformย  and pipelinesย  to support ย  I ntelligence Community ย  AI efforts .ย ย  ย 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, andย  ow n backend services and platform components forย  a modern ย  data architecture ย  and pipelines. ย 

  • Make high-impact technical decisions around architecture, data modeling and system integrationย ย  ย 

  • Build integrations with internal and external data sources, APIs, and event streams ย 

  • Partner with data engineering, analytics, andย  product managers ย  to define scalable data models and platform capabilities ย 

  • Improve reliability, observability, and performance of data workflows and backend services ย 

  • Implement best practices for testing, monitoring, logging, and deployment ย 

  • Contribute to architecture decisions around storage, orchestration, metadata management, and access patterns ย 

  • Help establish engineering standards for code quality, documentation, CI/CD, and operational excellence ย 

  • Troubleshoot and debug production systemsย  ย 

  • This is a hybrid role that will require a mix of work from home and onsite work at the customerโ€™s office in Reston, VA. ย 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 + years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend development skills ย 

  • Strong proficiencyย  inย  Python ย 

  • Experience building backend systems, APIs, or distributed services in production environments ย 

  • PostgreSQL ย  andย  Elasticsearch ย  proficiency ย 

  • Familiarity withย  AWS , especiallyย  S3, RDS, andย  other data centric services ย 

  • Current/active TS/SCI with a current CI polygraph or be willing and able to obtain a CI polygraph. ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, e.g. Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent experience ย 

  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including testing, version control, CI/CD, and system design ย 

  • Tenacious troubleshooting, problem solving ย  andย  error fixingย  mentality ย 

  • Strongย  communication and collaboration skills, ability to work, collaborate and thrive on a small technical team. ย 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with data platforms, data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, or large-scale data processing systems ย 

  • Gitlab and Gitlab CI experience ย 

  • Openshift ย  and Helm ย  experience ย 

  • Docker and containerization experience ย

ย  โ— The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $137,000.00 - $182,000.00 - $200,200.00 annually.
